My Father ran across a 4 spd. and called me wanting to post this to get some help on its ID. Here are all the numbers found on it and he says it has some sort of counter-weight on tail shaft. GM-128925856, C-22, 0293, 6261884. I hope this will help identify it.

Some of the four speed transmissions have the emergency brake mounted on the back of them. That is probably what the "counter-weight" is.
According to my 1963 shop manual, the unit number will be stamped on the rear of the case above the output.
Doug 57. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 | If it has the counterweight on the tailshaft it's probably a saginaw, from a vega/monza. Look at the input shaft and see if it has any grooves on it,that will tell you the gear ratios.

Don't know for sure but that's what a former owner said he took it out of.

If you're interested in drive ratios, all the variants of the M20 are very close together.
