I like it! I don't think I would touch it, rather leave it the way it sits, and drive it until it really needed something done to it. You're a lucky man... Is there a story behind your finding it?

if you "restore" that truck yu'll be commitin a capital crime, punishable by never again bein able to say "this is an original unmolested example of the rigs they built in the day" - like ya said never seen one so nice to be original - cherish it!! grin

I use Steele Rubber Products. You can get a catalog at www.steelerubber.com . If it's rubber and for cars or trucks, they have it.

So THAT'S what they look like without rust!!! I've always wondered....

Seriously, it's a great truck. Some cleaning and polishing and it would be in super condition to show as "Bowtie" condition...or just as they came from the factory. Lotsa good restoration info there just from observation.

I agree. If that was mine, I'd maybe take off the driving lights, Check to see if those hubcaps were original(look like Corvette caps to me) and get a seat redone. Interior color is interesting. It looks factory but I suspect it's not. I believe it should be fawn color. But it looks like a good job. Take out the seat and bring it your local upholsterer and fix 'er up. Nothin' like a nice bench seat. Maybe swing by a good body man that you trust and have him HAND RUB- not power buff- out the paint. A little detailing here and there and you got something special. Please don't make the mistake tearing up that truck and "fixing" it all up. You want a rod, buy one. You want to rod that one, sell it to me or someone else and we'll fix you up with plenty of rod parts and money. grin

PS tha ttruck has lots of factory goodies. reverse lights, factory bed rails, custom cab, custom steering wheel, V-8, two-tone paint, chrome bumpers. That is a sweet truck. smile

I also agree with the above. A nice cleanup and detail and you will be a wiser not to mention richer man. You will lose more than you gain by starting a resto at this stage. I agree also on the cab color scheme and materials. The hubcaps I'm not as sure of but they are not factory original for the truck. Think seriously about classic vehicle insurance policy as it is worth the small cost of the annual premium. Enjoy your bolt for many years to come.

oldno3fan,
it's yer truck so you can do what ya want... but that thing is really, really nice... especially for a 40 year old truck... I say clean it up good - maybe take it to a reputable detail shop and have then clean it real good. Like others said, get the seat redone...

for comparision - check out my '65 truck - website with pics in my sig line below...

Aw go ahead and fix it up. Nice truck!! It is yours do what ya want but a great find. Those hubcaps look exactly like the stock hubs they used on the 1963 Impala's.

Do those hubcaps have crossed flags in the center? They look like a very unusual optional Corvette hubcap from the late '60s.

Awesome truck!

dude, with a truck that nice'original i wouldnt even think about touching it. its in great shape and unless your a professional restorer, you'll just make it look worse than it does now. hardly any of us here can say our trucks still have the factory original paint. it would be a shame to see that paint get stripped off. just my two cents.

Nice truck. I wish I could find one that clean. As for my opinion, I don't think you asked for an opinion. Do as you wish with your little treasure and have fun with it. A repaint won't hurt anything and a little moderizing is always good in the safety department too. These trucks from this era were built for farmers and the service industry, there is no rear value difference between factory original or restored. I would love to find a clean short bed like that to drop my big block into, but it seems alot of people would have a heart attack if I did such a thing from reading some of the threads in this post. I do have a steering wheel like that in my 63 so that is a factory part, but the hubcaps aren't.
Have fun with it and make it your own truck,
Scott

WOW! SWEET ride that is. It's your rig & do what ya like. But I'd have it rubbed out/polished & waxed then slap a set of stock hubcaps on it. Then you are ready to ROLL! Man that really look good!

Enjoy it!!
