How much did you pay for your stovebolt, if you don't mind me asking?
I've been looking around and I don't really know how much one is really worth. I'm looking at 55-2 and 56 chevy's. Also looking at a 56 GMC. Anybody know where I could look to find a value? Thanks

More than I should have, but glad I did...

How is that for being evasive?

My answer for how much you should pay...try to decide what you want for a final product. Look at the truck you are going to buy...how much of it are you going to Re-buy in the form of new/replacement parts? Add it all up and see what you come up with. I looked at $1,000 41-46s and learned that by the time I paid for a new bed, doors, fenders etc, I had exceeded the cost of the "expsensive" truck I bought. Best part is...my wife was doing the math with me while we looked at a couple of parts catalogs... nice when she looks at you and tells you to spend the big money....

If I told you how much I paid, the folks from the dry warm climates would think I was CRAZY. But I got mine back on the road in only a few months...so to me, it was worth it.

Same here I paid too much for mine.Go to your local newstand and buy a copy of Old Cars Price Guide.Cost around 4 or 5 dollars. It has a section on pickup trucks. It gives you prices on about 5 conditions of vehicles. One thru five.Use this as a reference.I think it is published once a month.

I will add a little more here.I bought mine about 3 yrs ago.It was solid in every way,had exceptable paint, overall was a good looking truck.I modified it quite a bit,M2 frontend,Auto trans.New seats, carpet, etc.I have quite a bit of money tied up in it,but trucks like mine are now are selling for a little more than what I have invested. One thing for sure, when you buy one you will probably see a better deal a few days later.I think that is part of Murphys Law.

Paid $500.00 for Betsy. Of course that was in 1974. Ain't gonna say what is invested in her as of today but a lot more than what I paid for her.

$600 in 1992. It ran but since I didn't know the truck (and its tires), the PO brought it 150 miles to me on a flatbed trailer for another $75.

Bought a 49 sub 2 years ago. Paid $3800. Trailered it to Wisconsin from Montana. Took it off the trailer and drove it for 1500 miles. Body was nice and straight with minimal rust. 216 ran good but used some oil. Took it all apart for a frame off last year. My take on this is just about any old rusted out truck can be brought back to life if you throw enough money at it. You can buy any body /engine part through swap meets, repops or scrounging at boneyards. The end result is the truck you wanted. The difference is in the time you spent. I think the end cost comes out the same. If you pay more initially for a nice straight driver you will spend less money on the restoration. If you buy a boned out hulk you will spend more money on the restoration. So in the end the cost is the same only the time is different. My .02. Weeds

got mine fore free.....but.........I have over $5,000 spent already and it is still disassembled. I figure I've got at least another 5 to go before it's done....ok it will probably never be done........ At this point my goal is to just not spend any more than what a nicely restored stock one would go for (10-14K). Dont ever plan to sell it but you have to set some sort of limits or you'll go broke.

My wife always says I should have just started with one that someone else already did the work on. She says it's not the same truck anyhow because you've replaced everypart on it.

Thank goodness for stalled projects and bad advertising!!!! wink I got my truck very cheap considering how solid it is. At least if you spend the money and do the work yourself, you know whats in it and whats wrong with it.

I bought mine out of Texas, 2 years ago for $8500 ... but it had a killer paint job, a 350/350 with only 20,000 miles on 'em, the gas tank removed and a 30-gallon tank installed in the back with a nice filler-door in the rear fender, a MustangII IFS with upper and lower tubular A-arms all nicely installed, Cragar SS wheels, a Caddy tilt-tele steering column, Chevy 12-bolt rear (all the mechanics done up real smart),.

All that ... and I've dropped another $11,000 in it since.

Fact is, I can't wait to drop another $5000 in it, doing up the suspension and the interior.

Who counts the cost when you're living a dream?

I paid a total of $2,302 for my 8 trucks. And that includes what I paid for a complete truck that I have since parted out.

That doesn't include paying for wreckers or gas and ferry tickets and such to get them home. Of what it cost to clear some trees to have room to park them...

I could tell you the current total investment but then you would have to eat this page to keep the information out of the wrong hands.

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...
