All of you guys would be happy to know that the latest edition of Hot Rod Magazine has a build up of a 292 I-6 Chevy engine. They discuss the differences between the 194, 230, 250, and 292. They give names of parts suppliers. They discuss pistons, rods, intakes, carbs, exhaust, ect. I have not read the whole article yet, but I thought you guys might want to know that a mainstream publication is showing some love to stovebolts.

Just read the article. Guy at work brought it in. Good stuff.
The EFI really added some HP to that 292 versus 4 bbl carb and Clifford intake.
And the lump port head with small block valves flowed 40% better than stock.
And speaking of stock, if I do well this summer on some recent stock (market) purchases, a 292 build will be happening this fall. wink

Thanks for the heads up Phil. I am going to go look for that issue. I have a 292 laying around the place somewhere that needs a going over. May as well do it right.

What issue was that? I looked on the newsstand, but couldn't find the article.

Thanks

Highflyer,

It's the June issue. It must be. I went to one of the local Krogers and it had the May issue and there was nothing mentioned about the I6s.

I just skimmed the article this evening...good stuff. They mentioned some of the standard, but not often heard tips (using 283 and 307 pistons), as well as a few ones I hadn't heard (194/230/250 L22s use 5.7" small-journal connecting rods). They even talked about both versions, not just the 292 (although they didn't talk about the Poncho 250 OHC engines).
