Happy New Year, gang!

We are going to try this again -- we've created a new Forum for non-old truck related topics only: The Greasy Spoon.

This will be a forum for folks who want to chat with like-minded folks about whatever you want (a few simple exceptions, the rules are posted right up front).

So from here on out, jokes, what you did this weekend, Proffit's medication list, New Year's Resolutions, Joker's insight, etc, etc will go there and this forum will be only for general old truck items that don't have specific homes in the other forums.

For now, it will be listed under this Forum so it gets a little attention. After everyone has gotten used to it (well, most everyone...) we'll stick it after the truck-specific forums.

Thank you upfront for participating and for keeping it a friendly and happy place to be.

Regards and Happy New Year!
John and Peggy

And by the way, I'm moving some of the latest off-topic threads over to the Greasy Spoon to sort of get the pump primed, both here and there.

So if you're looking for a thread that's not in here anymore, chances are I've moved it. I won't do all of them, obviously, but enough to get folks onto the new swing of things.

Sorry for any confusion this might cause in the short term. Be patient with us as we grow!

Thanks,
John

Do we have enough server space for Proffit's med list? Last I heard he was taking a handful of just about everything.

Shoot Barry, it's not the server space, it's the bandwidth! But I've got NASA working on it now.

Man, between him and Koolkar yapping about flying potroasts dropping toenail clippings into pickle jars ... It's a wonder we get ANYTHING through the pipe!

Joker -- A big mahalo for the offer! I'll be sending you a list of recipients soon! grin

Oops, we're getting off topic here, aren't we??? eek

Too bad, I thought the general forum was lots of fun again lately. But we can't leave well enough alone.

Tony, it IS lots of fun -- that's why we created the Greasy Spoon (duh!) We're trying to find a compromise to keep both camps happy: The Camp who doesn't like to have to wade through the off-topic stuff to get to the trucks only threads; and the camp who wants to talk about non-truck related subjects with other guys who share similar interests.

Soooo, if it's an old truck-related post, it goes here. If you want to tell everyone what your resolutions are for 2005, it goes in the 'Spoon.

Coolamundo??

All the people properly medicated seem to take this in stride. I might have to work on my dosage a little.

Ok, so that is cool and all. If I want to start a thread like that I will put it in the spoon. BUT, what if there is a legit thread going and someone makes a post to it that is maybe slightly off topic but either funny or to the point or whatever but not necessarily mentions the word truck, will it get deleted?

Tony M - Tony, Tony, Tony. You are trying to "box" this thing into too tight a container. Above all else, the common sense rule applies. Not only that but also the "reasonable man" theory. The only posts that get deleted are flaming and advertising. A little bit of "off-topic" within a thread is certainly acceptable as long as it is in good taste. Now if the thread itself is "off-topic," then we'll just move it to the Spoon.

Shall we be like the Pharisees and create a ponderous volume of rules for every conceivable infraction? No. I'm going to rely on your common sense, patience and understanding that there is a spirit to the law in addition to the letter.

That's about as well as I can explain it. Hopefully, that gives you the idea.

If you seek perfection, you will not find it here. Sorry if this disappoints you.

Regards,
John

I learned a long time ago in dealing with teenagers, one of the most effective approaches is this:

"Why do you want me to be the cops, make up rules and then try to make you follow them? You know what's right. Just do what's right!"

The Greasy Lounge Spoon sounds like a good idea!

In fact, I've eaten there on the road, once or twice!

No I just don't need it boxed up. Just wanted to see how tight the "enforcement" would be. There was never anything worse than perfectly decent posts disappearing. But if it is common sense you want, common sense most of us will have.
wink

0.05% of 5000 is 3 (rounded to the nearest integer).

OK. So there's yourself and 2 other guys who know trucks. Who are they?

Tony M -- That's all I ask. Do that and you will have snatched the pebbles from my hand, Grasshopper. The "enforcement" will be what it needs to be when we can get it done -- The moderators and I are neither omniscient nor omnipresent. (We are omnipotent, though grin ). I might not seem fair, but I try. If you want more than that, then you are going to be terribly disappointed.

Jim, I will not hassle you about your spelling. Me making fun of your spelling is about as much fun for me as you making fun of my old truck expertise is for you -- we know these things about ourselves and have come to terms with them. Besides, you have far more entertaining buttons to push :p

Luke -- Go to the little window at the bottom right of the page and hop to "The Greasy Spoon" That's where the general off topic chitchat goes. Good to see you back, by the way.

See you around the Galaxy,
Q
