This is my first post & I am in some need of some help. I just picked up my first pre-70 pickup, a 1964 C-10 & I have always wanted one. This pickup has no motor or trans & was a 6cyl with a manual.I have just rebuilt a 350 engine with a TH350 trans & would like to know if anyone has any tips.

For example, when I look for headers most of them only go back to 1966, will this work on a 64' with a V8? Are the frames & firewalls the same from 60-66? As for cooling there is no radiator so I am planing on using an aftermarket aluminum crossflow, has anyone done this that might have a size recommendation? Its tough to know what will work when everything is gone & if anyone has any suggestions that would prevent some trial & error I would really appreciate it......thanks.

as for frames and firewalls. I beleive that the frames are the same. The cabs were changed in 63 or (correct me please if i'm wrong). The 60-62 had wrap around windows which included different doors aswell. The small block will fit with different motor mounts. Please ask all the questions you want and good luck! hope I was help and anybody please correct me.

When you need parts for your truck, '64 to '66 parts will interchange. I put a 66 radiator in my 64 because that's all that was listed. The 60 to 62 trucks had different suspension set-ups, different drivetrains and the 60 to 63 trucks had different cabs than the 64 and later trucks.

well, I'll chip in a welcome to the garage, where you'll eventually find yer answers!
the 60-66 are all the same for the basic dimensions, so if you find headers/maniflods that are for a 66, you should be good to go - won't be much different twixt 6cyl and v8, as the trucks came either way - sometimes called 'the V8 era' series cuz v8's gained in popularity thru that period

got any wreckin yards around to look at for a 60-66 to see what yer missin? failin that, there'll prolly be someone here who can get a pic of their setup for ya - just keep lookin!!

articcat53GMC, you mentioned different motor mounts, do you mean the mounts on the frame or the motor or both? I really let this problem slip my mind...I imagine the mounts at the motor are easy to find but if I need to changed the the frame mounts where do I find them?

Welcome aboard! This BBS is better'n a free lapdance when it comes to getting useful advice. Couldn't have got this far on my 58 without it!

Cabs changed in '64. Except for minor changes to interior, 64-66 are identical.

For that matter, the frame was about the same from 60-66. Maybe they changed to a mechanical clutch linkage requiring different headers?

I called Chevy Duty today & the tech guy was a big help, sounds like all you need to do to drop a V8 in place of a L6 is to remove the frame mount extention & it will drop right in. Thanks again to all that helped out.

the frame is different in a 1960-62 with torsion bars up front and an x type frame thats wider than the 63-66.
