The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Made some changes

Looking for the Lounge? Regrettably, terroristas bombed it this morning and we're still sifting through the rubble. At present, our plans are to bulldoze the site and not rebuild.

Seriously folks, as you all can see, we made some changes to the Forum this morning.

To sum up, there are a couple of Forums that are gone and the entire Stovebolt Page Forum is now solely for discussing topics directly related to pre-74 GM trucks.

This forum will undoubtedly become the the busiest one on the site so I ask everyone's support in adhering to both the spirit and letter of the new guidelines.

Great move John,even though I'm now an unemployed moderator,lol.Back to basics,trucks.

Sounds good to me too. There are plenty of other places to "fight the good fight". As soon as I can find my way back to Florida when the flying debris clears, I'll be working on BillyBob again and posting on my progress.

I will miss the "friendly" discussions of the now defunct forums, however! Especially some of the good natured comoradery that I feel had developed in certain threads.

I do have a question.
Why did you choose the cut off year of `73, instead of `72? :confused: I think if you include the 73 models, you would have to open it up to anything up to `87! Not that I think that it should be. In the spirit of what this site was designed for, I personnaly think it should only be for `72 and older!

COE, the cut year has to be somewhere, you know to be an old truck site. As before, the occasional technical questions come up about newer trucks and even a GM old car question once in awhile.I don't see a problem so long at it's truck related and the basic premise is still older trucks, hope that answers your question and John just cleared it up below!!

I think this is a great change back to what it was. The only reason I come here is for the truck info. I get enough political commentary at work. Thanks for the change.

Did I miss a warning that this was coming?
I got an e-mail notification that someone replied to a topic I had posted about midnite Pacific last night and when I went to view it this morning I found out the lounge was gone!
I realise that you guys and girls down there take your politics way too serious and couldn't stop slagging each other in what was usually a pretty calm forum, but I am really shocked with the move. I'm [censored] off about the apparent lack of notice. (there was something about maintenance a day or two ago)
I usually ignored the political crap and checked out other interesting posts, which often led me to sites and info I wouldn't have found or even cared about otherwise.
Your site John and Peg. Understand you had enough of the bickering and fighting, but don't like how it was done!

Freedo,any info you will need about old GM trucks can be posted in this forum. Feel free to ask any truck related questions, vendors, licensing,your project, etc.
Anything else can be found by searching the millions of pages on the Web, enjoy, Tony

Freedo, it isn't John and Peggy you should be angry with. It's the children who couldn't behave themselves in the Lounge. The truth is the entire site was almost taken down. Be thankful the final decision was to just delete the Lounge and SOBS and continue the rest.

As John has stated, any off-topic posts (especially political ones!) will be summarily deleted, so stick to trucks.

Remember, this site is all volunteer. John and Peggy do this out of the goodness of their hearts, and it's darn near a full-time job for Peggy. We should all be thankful that they've created a place for us old truck lovers. They didn't have to do it, and they don't have to continue it. If it gets to be too much of a pain, they'll pull the plug and you'll have to find some other place to talk about trucks.

I suggest to all Stovebolters that you take some time to consider the value of this resource and the sacrifice John and Peggy make daily to offer it to you completely free of charge. Then approach this site with respect for the Millimans and behave within their rules. Rule breakers will no longer be tolerated, I can assure you.

No. The Lounge was deleted by John. It no longer exists nor is there any archive.

What exactly are you looking for? Are you asking about how to get a domain? What hardware we use? What software? What kind of work has to be done to keep it going?

Paul.... I'm not angry per-say with John and Peg, as I said it is their site, but it's the apparent lack of notice. The political B.S.ers (and I think you were in there deep too!) couldn't heed warnings to stop being childish about thier comments and to lay-off the political crap. So yes I am most angry at those people.
I am, I guess, more disappointed that J&P decided to simply pull the plug, rather than say..'people this is it! you have until X day to stop the political BS in the lounge or it will be changed'.. and then IF it didn't stop then on the X day say ' the changes are coming tomorrow because....' Then go ahead and make the change...
I check out the forums atleast once a day, even so, I may have missed an obvious warning of impending change.
I found the lounge interesting and helpful because the people here have such a wide range of interests. I was able to get help on both truck and non-truck related issues, just as if I met a bunch of friends someone's garage instead of spending a bunch of time searching thru a bunch of b.s. sites to get the info...like my MicroSoft Service Pack question!
So now I can't meet my computor 'friends' here and talk about other stuff, only trucks.

Wow! Kinda sucks for those who used it responsibly. I'm not much for political stuff but, I really enjoyed posting things such as what music are 'bolters listening to. Helped me get to know folks.
I've met some of the most genuine, nicest and helpful people on this site and it was cool to be able to "converse" and hear their thoughts and opinions and advice on non-truck related or roundabout truck related stuff (sans the political mumbo jumbo).
I wonder if a better move would've been to ban politics and related?
The best part about The Lounge is that when you cleared away all the crap, you knew we all share the same common thread, the love of old trucks.

For your information, many warnings were issued.It doesn't matter who was responsibile, the Lounge is gone,and it will be missed.Music posts are no problem, what is the problem is politics, religion,SUV slamming,soccer moms and the rest that has no place here

As a new member, I kinda liked the idea of "graduating" from "gopher, wrench fetcher, shop shark, etc."
Even though I wasn't sure what it took to move to the next level.

I know some other forums I've been to for old trucks have a 'political rant' forum especially and only for that. hahaa

oh well, the political stuff was getting on my nerves especially as it was getting more difficult to figure out from the topic lines which ones were so...

cool... well, I must run, I have to put my truck back together now...

tho' I did like some of the non-political yet gearhead type posts in there... but oh well... people can't play nice time to close up the sandbox.

Hear Hear, I agree with the move. I'm kind of new here and it seemed like I could not express an opinion without being put down for it. I say back to trucks. It's what I came for. The other stuff was ok until it went sour, and that seemed to happen to a lot of threads in the lounge.

Many of the things that are "sort of" truck related can be posted here, like links to auctions and such. If we behave we may even be tolerated the occasional PC question. After all, our PC is our main link to this forum.

In the words of the drill instructor in "Stripes" when the squad was introducing themselves, one wanted to be called "Psycho" and got in the DI's face. The DI then replied "Lighten up, Frances"!

People have been taking stuff way to freakin' seriously, but we are in serious times...I, for one, will miss the Lounge! One good thing, maybe...Look at all the saved bandwidth that's back from posts like the infamous "X" post!!!

I think it is a positive change. People should discuss trucks on a truck forum.
How about all you guys who want a BS forum opening your own? It's easily done. There are plenty of computer topic forums "out there" to explain how. Use them for your occasional computer related topics too.

After reading a few of the infamous threads, I just didn't go back to the lounge. It was not what I came here for, so I just stayed in the forum that was truck related.

Otherwise, let's keep this old truck-related. I, too, enjoyed the music posts and the garage-eating Godzilla figurines and even Kip's umty-million post thread about nothing, but as Hereclitus said, you never step in the same stream twice -- change is the only universal constant. And my collolary -- you can't throw a rock in a sewage puddle without splashing anybody. You can look at it as a few bad actors spoiled it for everyone or you can look at it as an opportunity for growth. OR, you can look at is as I do -- a very disappointing lesson in human nature.

But any way you look at it, any fault here is mine and only mine. And if you want to discuss it, please use the email link above (I may not answer or even do anything about it, but I promise I'll read it).

If it isn't strictly related to pre-73 GM trucks, then it isn't welcome on the Stovebolt Page. If you forget that, or have doubts, and get mad that something of yours gets deleted without explanation, blame me and only me. My moderators work for me.
