or at least in this case.

One less dummy on Houston freeways. At least he did not injure/kill anyone but himself. Hope he did not leave some young ones behind who were depending on him.

Authorities said they are still trying to determine why the driver was traveling at such a high rate of speed
I can explain that. He was safely pumping gas until the police started chasing him.

It must have been a highly modified Ford to be going that fast.

The body is highly modified now along with the driver!

This happens too often no matter what is being driven.

Norse - Sorry to lump you in with this guy. I will pray for you to find someone to buy your ford. wink

It is like the police chase video shows. Some guy is cruising through residential streets, they add some tire squeel and a fake helicopter pilot saying, he must be going at least 100mph now!

Poor Norse, don't you hav any friends? Because friends don't let friends drive Fords.

The speed given in the article was a typo; they missed the decimal point. It was 14.0 MPH. A Ford truck crashing at 14.0 MPH is almost always fatal. grin

So, what you're saying is it's the cops fault?!?

Actually, yes it was the cops fault that he crashed. Cause and effect. If they hadn't chased him he wouldn't have crashed. What if he had run into a family with kids? What would have been the reason? Were they chasing a murderer? Kidnapper? Trying to get away with kidnapped child? Car jacker? Nope, he...

I contend chasing an erratic driver so he increases speeds and becomes more erratic and more dangerous is counter productive.

But Tony, it was Texas. At least they didn't shoot him!

We all poke fun at Fords (I sure did), but we should remember that a man died. frown His spouse may have just left him or he lost his job or he may have had some mental health issue that could have been treated. The police had his license number - it would have been better if they had waited until he got home to arrest him or whatever. But then again we can't judge police actions on what we read in the media.

Hummm...driving erratically...like maybe a drunk driver...yeah, let's just let him go and then we'll come along and clean up the bodies when his "erratic" driving ends up killing someone. I bet if they didn't chase him and he ended up killing someone you'd blame that on the cops too. Probably like it was the cops fault the last time you got stopped for speeding?

I had to deal with a stupid driver in a late model impala today and if I was not going to daytona monday evening I would of rammed him with my daily driver ford truck and showed him what happens to a wimpy front wheel drive car when tangling with a pickup. grin

Careful there Jeff. That sounds pretty close to something we'd be reading about in the papers. I have to admit, though, that I have had the same feeling with certain people over the years, knowing that my Suburban would come out the winner. Fortunately my brake foot had better sense and a quicker reaction time than my brain.

Guys like the focus of this thread just strengthen the argument that the cops need to be able to aim some gizmo at your car and shut it down. I don't like things like that because they have a way of being abused.

When I see an out of control driver, I just give him, or her, all the room in the world. I figure that they may have an emergency that is causing them to speed, or drive like a nut job.

My only exception, are those raving imbeciles who speed up on the right lane to prevent you from getting on the parkway. What ever happened to maintaining your speed, or just moving over one lane, to the right to let drivers trying to enter the parkway get on? I remember, and practice, that little lesson from Drivers Ed at John Adams High School, some 30 years ago.

For you left coast people, a parkway is a NY/NJ freeway without commercial trucks.

Norse, your right about the Yamaha drivetrain, but it still had a blue oval on it and it went like he--.It was not much different from the cars made today by GM,Mopar or whatever. There isnt one of them made comepletely in the USA.When I was driving truck I hauled loads of GM parts from canada to Mexico.I also hauled GM engines from Mexico to New Orleans, where they were loaded onto ships and sent to ???.IT is a worldwide market out there.Toyota cars are assembled in Georgetown,KY.,Hondas in Marysville,OH.Nissans somewhere in TN.I believe BMW has a plant in Ala.My point is you cannot buy a car or truck made comepletely in the USA,and many foreign models are just as American as GM and Ford. Happy Thanksgiving.

I have tried to get all kinds of vehicles over 140 MPH including a real race car. The fastest was my Honda CB750 I had in the 80's. But even it topped out in the 130's.
