When I bought my truck it had a hole in the cab. I assumed it was for a radio antenna but as I found out it is not in the stock location. Please look at the picture and help try to figure out what it is for. Thanks, Chris

Does it go all the way through, to the inside of the cab. If so, that's what it is. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 | You know I never looked on the inside of the cab. Will be sure to do that tonight. I wonder why there is no place for a radio antenna. Were radio's an option and if you opted not to there wasn't a place for them on the cab?

Most radio antennas were mounted on the flat surface of the cowl in a way to avoid a bash by the hood when opened. On my rig, someone drilled the atenna hole without checking for hood clearance. Open the hood, end of antenna! Relocation is one of my summer projects!
The hole you have fits with the spotlight option, but could be converted for pillar mounting of the antenna. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 | Well thanks gang for the input. Any idea where I can get antenna to work for a radio?

The original style antenna mounted on the driver's side cowl in a very specific location. They also have a metal bracket inside that attaches to the inside side cowl metal. The antenna should come with a mounting layout pattern. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 279 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 279 | That hole is way to small for a spotlight.

One of the '48 Chevrolet Parts trucks, I have, had two spotlights on it originally, & the holes, are about the size of a Dime. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 | It looks like spotlight and then the hole was filled partially when they preped the body for paint. When the body was preped they didn't fill it because they weren't sure what it was for. My best guess. I have had alot of spotlights but have never seen one with a shaft that small. There would also be 2 screw holes for the mounting bracket. It maybe a hole for those "dummy" spotlights and the other hole got covered during the prepwork.

Only had one smaller hole, for the mounting bracket, on each side.. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 65 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 65 | | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 | I looked last night and there was no indication of a second hole on the inside where a spotlight handle would be.
The only guess I can come up with is it was a hole drilled by the P.O. and used as an antenna for the crappy radio I pulled out.
My plan is to hit Napa or Autozone and locate a antenna I can use for a radio/cd player that I plan to mount under the seat.
Thanks everyone,
Chris

I tried to find one on Truck Shop, but their online catalog leaves a lot to be desired...I mounted a spring base antenna on the cowl about 2yrs ago without thinking about opening the hood, but it works pretty well as it just springs back a little when the hood is open...really want to do one likes yours though..love the look | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | Hey, Shooper
I would phone Chevy Duty and the Truck Shop and ask if their mounts are stainless or plastic, making sure they know I don't like the idea of plastic.
Last time I looked, I thought the Truck Stop had the right one.
