For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 34 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 34 | Just did a deal on an AD, not a bad truck for my purpose. While titled as a 54, the VIN is H5 4N020259. I'm thinking that the 5 tells me it's a 1st or AD 55? The VIN chart on this site doesn't show 2 numbers after the series code. At any rate, 350 motor, manual 4spd of unknown origin at this time, looks like bucket seats from a small GM car like a Cavalier or such, but in general a very workable truck. Has original gauges intact, goofy power brake set-up, and a stereo hanging from the bottom of the dash. Glad it wasn't cut in. Stock front axle, 12 bolt rear, but 6 lug wheels. Has a cool louvered tailgate panel on the outside, and a chrome grille with a minor "tweek" on the left side of the center horizontal bar. No dent in the grille, just a slight bend. By the way, that grille may be for sale soon. OK, as I get access to a scanner and pics I'll post up and join the rest of this 'bolt clan proper. Thanx. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 452 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 452 | I think there's a mistake on the Stovebolt VIN deciphering page for 53-55.1. According to the 53 and 54 resto packs, the year is given as two digits (including the decade). So the 54 in H54N is the year.

I'm doing this from memory, but if I recall correctly the H means its a 3100 or 1/2-ton.

We pulled it up on a flatbed early this morn and got it home. Doors are in just lovely condition. There's just enough wrong, changed, or missing that doing the full kustom kemp deal ain't hurtin a thing. Within the next 90 days there'll prolly be a parts list in the swap meet.
The plan...2 1/2 outta the top, 2 1/2 body section, channel the cab to within a 1/4 inch of the running boards or about 3". This should bring the beltline in the cab to just above the box. I may do a complete 54 Chev nose on it since Foose already beat me to the 55 gig. Running gear will be TransAm/Z28 LT1 w/4L60E...even with single exhaust and crossflow muffler it'll have more nut than will ever be used. OK those are just the basics. Thanx again. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 29 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 29 | Hello, Glad to here of your new purchase. Owning one of these is an awesome experience. Ive now owned 4 of these truck 3 junkers and one In amazing original condition. Now dont let some people here spoil your fun. I do believe those cool barn trucks that are original are cool to leave alone. But on the other hand those that have been driven and already had some mods to them they make cool street rods. Oh yeah and last time I checked you paid for that truck so unless you took it from someone no one has a right to say anything about your project. thanks chris | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 394 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 394 | glad to hear of your new project. wish you the best of luck with it. the fun is in the build up the plesure is in the drive. working on the boys 50 putting it back stock. then on to the 53. wish i had the knowledge in body work would like to lay the windshield back 4in and make a xcab out of it. my try with a little help from my freinds. keep up the project would like to see pics of the progress. have a long life but do it safe. mike j | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 336 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 336 | I agree with the last three posts. Highlander, congrats on the start of a new project! I am a huge fan of Stovebolters being enthusiastic and doing what brings them joy -- that's what we're here for, so have a big time and be sure to share pictures with us.
Thanks for sharing and saving another one from the crusher!

I really think THIS is the place for them. John...sorry if I overstepped in my response. I just don't care for that. Maybe I should remember that I have nothing to prove to this board other than my enthusiasm for the old 'bolts...mod or stock. Again, thanx to all. Pics soon. | | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 | Ok ... thanks for that catch. We've fixed the VIN Tech Tip page Thanks, Peg
