Well I did it! I Bought this nice 1950 Chevrolet ambulance from New Mexico! Haven't seen it in person yet. . . but looks clean and gennie!

Go see it on Ebay: #http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4517173595&category=6173

It comes to Vermont next month. All original, stick, 6 Cylinder, solid . . . AND. . . it has an origihnal "Necker Knob" on the steering wheel! Hahahha!

Anyone know who made the body for this combo ambulance and hearse from Texas?

Keep on dreamin g about old iron!

That is one cream puff. Are you going to tow it home with the COE in the background? That would make it a heck of a deal. cool

COOLAMUNDO!

Does it have a siren? Love those old mechanical sirens. Great roof light.

Looks like that car is from Hereford, TX. If so, I bet is smells like cow manure. There are more cattle fed in Deaf Smith County, TX (Hereford is the county seat) than any other county in the U.S. Hereford smells awful.

Awesome find! I bet you will be the only guy cruising one of those around town!

I see that it was, "reserve not met"... How does that work, you just Email him and make a deal? If it went for anything close to the last bid, I'm really jealous!

Super find!

I was quite amazed to see the car for sale. Very solid, rare standard shift and all! I don't even know if it has siren yet!

Thanks for all your nice comments about the "stretch" . . . and I'm sure the good folks of Hereford Texas appreciate your civic promotional comments! Hahahahaha! Luckily the car is in NM now and up wind!

I've got about 14 feet of space left going west on the open trailer back to Nebraska, if anyone wants a load brought west from New England!

Showing my age. . .Memories:
When I was growing up in Connecticut, a rare treat was to go on a hot summer night to the stock car races ( yes! real cut down 38 fords 'n stuff!) at the "Danbury Speedway ", State fair grounds. They used to have two shiney white (vintage even then) stretch ambulances ( 'think they might have been buicks?)

They don't build em like this ...anymore! hahahaha

"Old Coes" .. up to my COE windshield now in SNOW!

That is a very cool old workhorse indeed. You might check with the folks over at the Professional Car Society http://www.professionalcar.org/ for some assistance with the car's history.

The ambulances I drove a few years ago were 70's Cadillac’s and later Ford E-150s, 250s and finally they figured out they needed 350s. Now, they are using E-450s - go figure.

One of my dreams someday - long after I finish getting my old “stove bolt” back on the road - is to get me a 1976 Superior Cadillac ambulance to restore. However, I hear they are an expensive project because everything was custom made by the builder and requires a lot of fabrication work. So, we we’ll see.

Anyway, congratulations on your new project! It looks like a lot of fun!
