Hi all, The vacuum wipers on my 48 daily driver have never worked and I am going to tear them down and get them going soon. In the mean time, they get enough vacuum to slowly rise to about the middle of the window as I am driving. If I push the switch towards the window (counter-clock-wise)they will go back to park. My question is, where is the off position for these things? I hear a small pssst when I turn the switch c.w. Thanks in advance.

Well I can't answer the "off position" but once you get the motor out you should see a couple of small vent holes near the vacuum tube connection. Make note of where these holes are. You will want to add a few drops of light oil in these holes while running the wippers. This of course is after having rebuilt the motor. If you search I am sure you will find a couple of post on rebuilding your wipper motor.

the off position is to the right or turning it clock wise. i took mine apart a couple of weeks ago and cleaned it a put vaseline on vane to lubricate it. don't use lithium or any thing else they are to heavy. ron

I squirted light 3-in-1 oil in all the openings of mine and worked the lever back and forth. That and the dual stage fuel pump for extra vacuum have worked for me.

I tried lubing mine with vasoline. It worked great, as long as the temp was 65 and above. Below that, the vasoline got thick and kept the vane from moving properly. If you really want to get the job done well, do a search and check out Ficken Wiper Service . IMHO that really looks like the way to go.

Thanks for all the reply's guys. We have had so much rain this year, and I have been driving without wipers and I think I better get them going. I may overhaul one of the ones out of my other trucks and then swap. I have read several posts on working on these motors, and think I can handle that, but I have been needing to do an overhaul on my 235 anyway and assumed I would take care of this stuff, when it was parked for a motor swap. I was just curious if I was leaving the switch on during normal driving and didnt want to hurt anything. Thanks again and pass the rain-ex.

My original wiper motor works just fine. The park position is to turn the knob on the dash fully counterclockwise, and clockwise is on high. In between varies the speed of the wipers. When you turn it all the way counterclockwise the wipers park from wherever they were when you twisted the knob.

You will not hurt the truck or the wiper motor by leaving it on when the wipers are stuck. It does not pull enough vacuum to affect the engine and the wiper motor is a pretty tough little mechanism. They work pretty well when rebuilt.

If it,s a daily driver why not put in an electric conversion. They are easy to install & work slick.

I installed an electric motor, and it does work slick, but...It took a ton of tweaking to get the sweep and park position right. If there is any play at the end of your transmission arm, be prepared for lots of tedious work.
