HI.... I'm looking for chromed sheet metal screws in numbers 8 and 10 flat head and button head or round. Anyone know of a source? YEP..I could have some chromed but that takes an eternity just thought I'd ask....THANKS, Steve :rolleyes:

Hi Steve,,as Joe said,get some stainless ones and polish the heads. Thats what i did for my bed bolts.
ACE Hardware has an excellent selection.

All the smaller hardware stores are gone in my area ... thanks to Lowe's and Home Depot - who offer *no* stainless screws or bolts.

I get chromed screws from a local Harley dealership and order all my stainless stuff from McMaster-Carr Online

Your Lowes and Home Depot don't have the specialty bins across from the bulk bolts and screws? I can usually find stainless, brass, metric, nylon, etc. bolts in just about any size I want at my local Lowes.

Home Depot contracts out the restocking and maintenance of packaged screws, bolts etc (not the 1# and 5# boxes of nails, drywall screws etc and the like). Thing to do is to find what day the store gets restocked by the contracted supplier. It will be a set weekly time. If the sales associate in hardware doesn't know (highly probable) look for one of the HD inventory control people: they'll be the ones pushing the little computer carts around during the early morning hours or track down the hardware department head. Most of the time the vendors HD uses are more than happy to strike up conversations with customers. You'll more likely than not find that they sell retail too and I can guarantee they have a far wider variety of goods than you can get in the big orange box. I've done this on several occasions when I needed specialty sized bolts and the regular places like fastenal only wanted to sell me a bag of 100 when I needed 10.

I buy my regular stainless and polished stainless fasteners from Totally Stainless. They have a very nice catalog that is year specific, as well as miscellaneous fasteners sold individually or in bulk, both polished and unpolished. I believe their catalog is free and a great source of factory correct stainless and OEM fasteners.

I also buy stainless fasteners from The Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware and Fastenal. There are many good sources, in most metropolitan areas, as well as online. I also have a source in the Kansas City area, called Metal By The Foot. They have a wide assortment of all grades, shapes, sizes and finishes of fasteners. Check your local phone book for steel suppliers and they may carry a complete line of fasteners, as well.

classic parts has a nice selection of stainless screws ...at a really decent price .

I went to our local "Ahern rental" (in Vegas) and they had a huge selection of chrome hardware "screws, nuts, bolts , washers...etc. you might want to check your local rental outfit I was surprised to find such a huge selection at a hardware rental store
