She looks factory and I had a few friends look at it as well, but none remember, or have even noticed this type of thing before, other than an old Jeep.
I noticed that there were two vented areas covered with a small split piece of rubber. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

Additionaly my 59 had metal cover plates over the vent hole areas. Looked very original and stock. That metal pan made a great place for the rodents to build a home.

When I tore it apart for reupholstering, there was lots of mouse/rat droppings and one carcass it there. Oh and the odor, well it was just divine. Now a snake would be extra special. Ask a buddy to suck out the venom after being bitten in the butt and he'd probably tell you you're gonna die. I have been told of a guy working under his dash and coming face to face with a rattler living behind the dashboard. I guessing the snakes in Texas are bigger than anywhere else like all things in the Lone Star state. On the serious side, there are U shaped clips that hold the material to the frame for the seat bottom. They are a real pain to reinstall and may be made out of unobtainium. A old upholsterer can reinstall the clips but the new guys probably have no experience with them. The seat back is hog ringed like everything else. You may not be recovering your seat but if anyone else is don't throw away the clips.

The upholstry is hog-ringed (mine had "u" clips) to the frame and the sheet metal is screwed in. I didn't have any upholstry on my seat when I got it so I'm not sure if the metal goes over or under the edge of the material.
The vent holes in also in my 56 seat. There's a metal frame that screws in over the rubber to hold it in place. I went to a garden pool place and bought a piece of the real thick pond liner rubber and cut that to fit and then sliced a slit down the center for the air escape hole. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 24 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 24 | Cliff59, Your seat is original ..... and takes the "C" style clips for the mounting of the seat cover.
