Hi all, my 38 is coming together pretty good now and now I'm trying to install the side windows. I'm not having any luck so far and I need some help. What is the procedure for installing the side glass? Is the window regulator in or out? Is the window fuzzy in or out? I did a search of the archives and didn't come up with anything but I know some of you guys have done this so please give me some advice on this.

You can turn the glass inside the door and not have to take the regulator off. While I had the window out I put my fuzzy on and installed the little rubber wiper. You will most likely break the glass getting it out of the piece it fits into but that's ok. The trick is to measure how much the glass sticks out on each side of the piece it fits in to. Then when you put the"gook" (adhesive) in the track, push the window down in it tight THEN put the window back in the door, hook up the regualtor and ROLL THE WINDOW UP TIGHT. This will make sure the window "centers" correctly and it won't be in a bind later when rolling it up or down. Thats why you should measure how much the glass sticks out on each side of the piece it fits in. Its been a while since I did my 37 so if I left something out someone else chime in......I'm sure they will! If I remember correctly I slide the window out (up/down) through the door by the fuzzy.

Thanks Chip for the reply. My truck had no glass when I bought it so I couldn't measure the amount of glass sticking out each end of the channel. I did get the glass installed on the passenger side but the window wants to bind up when rolling it down. The glass I had for the driver side was a little large and wouldn't fit inside the fuzzy. I sanded it down with a belt sander and after several attempts to make it fit, the glass shattered into a thousand pieces. It was everywhere. Now I need to buy another glass and try again. I hate to take out the passenger side one again but it binds and doesn't fit all that well either. Oh well.........

When at the glass shop ask them for the window setting tape. Measure the window track, what the glass sets in, so they know which thickness to give you. When I did my '37, I had all the window trim in place with the glass in the up position, heald up with tape. I then oiled up the setting tape with WD-40 and rolled the hand crank up till the track and window were pushed together. The oil helped them slide together plus expands the tape for a tight grip. This was the only way I could figure out how to get them centered the first time. It seemed to work, I ony did it once, maybe I just got lucky! Due to the way they roll up and down, mine bind a little on the way up. It has nothing to due with the glass or seals, just a old design regulator. Joe

Don't forget to put a "smig" of grease in the regualator track. My really work well but I did have to replace one of the handle assemblies. Lets us know how you come out 38chev.

As far as binding goes, mine bound up because the new divider bar channel was balling up in the track. When I scraped it out the base material was like putty and hadn't set. I tried Velcro fuzzy in the channel and it worked for a while. Now I have no fuzzy in the channel below the track when the window is all the way up. Works easily and does not rattle when it's down, so I'm happy.

Thanks for all the info guys. I had to order new glass so will have to wait until it arrives before attempting another installation. I kind of like the idea of cutting off the window fuzzy below the window opening. Maybe just leave enough for the window to stay put. Thanks again, Don

alan, you told me this once before but i lost your info. how does the metal channel that holds the window glass attatch to the roller on the regulator. i have tried looking on the other side but still can't tell. when i got the truck it was just sitting on top of the little roller which was fine for rolling it up but obviously not for rolling down!

I think the metal channel and the roller are "one piece" ... you can see by my pics (see link above) that the window comes out, off the regulator, by cocking it. The roller comes out with the window. Then, when you put the window back, you just slide the roller into the regulator channel (if I remember correctly).

It wasn't a problem for me when I did it -- but I didn't replace the glass, I just took the window out to refelt everything. Then I did it all again when I put new vent windows in ... again, it went well.

If your window is binding, it's tilting when going up or down. Mine was binding, too ... but after I put new felts in, which snugged everything up, it wasn't binding anymore.
