Folks.

I need to change the pushrod cover seal on my 216, got the seals, pretty okay with the process.

Question, is there any thing a person can do to divert the oil away from this collection point at the rear bottom of the cover.

Rig a parking spot so the front is about 3 degrees lower than the front. No oil pooling at the back of the engine.

I would think a quality gasket, clean surface and proper sealant would do the trick.

This stuff is good, but it's E$$$$PENSIVE! We used to use it in situations where there was a chronic leak due to slightly warped flanges, etc. It's a thick liquid that's applied in a thin bead from the tube and spread with a putty knife, right before assembly- - - - -with or without a gasket.

Jerry, how was it when time to disassemble?

I could be wrong, but I think there's a drain hole for oil at the rear of the block. I used RTV on both sides of the gasket. Works fine.

Thanks folks, yeh I was going to use some master gasket sealant on both sides of the cork gasket, it’s my go to product as well (ex aircraft mechanic)

Was hoping someone developed a mod that takes the drained oil from the head away from that back corner

With the side cover off, be sure to make sure the metal around the bolt holes are not distorted. Overtightening in an attempt to seal leaks leads to distortion of the metal. Flatten with a hammer gently on a flat surface. Then use the gasket sealer of your choice. In my experience it is best to accept a little bit of seepage and not fret too much because it is nearly impossible to keep the area dry.

Warm the cover up a little with a Propane torch- - - - -the sealer releases easily with just a bit of heat.
