I've been getting that "fatal error" message regularly for over 3 months. Right click, select 'refresh", and the post I'm trying to make usually loads almost instantly. The glacier-slow page changes are here constantly, or so it seems. Jerry

After studying the lag problem carefully, I have come to the conclusion that we need to upgrade the server. We're getting hammered by googlebots. There is no way to rate limit them, and blocking them entirely is not an option. So, the only option available to us is to increase CPUs and memory to handle the extra load. (Thanks a lot, Google.) I have notified John and Peggy. It's up to them to make the decision. If we do upgrade the server, there wil almost certainly be an interruption in service. We'll try to give you as much advance notice as possible.
With regard to the fatal error message that HotRod mentioned, that's a known problem, already reported to the developers of the forum software. We wait for them to provide a fix.

Thanks for the update Paul. Not great news, but hopefully we can find a way to help make this equipment upgrade happen for the benefit of the entire community now that we know whats needed.

I have been getting the same "Forbidden" screen at login from Goggle Chrome. I can access the site from MSN with no issue. It's still S L O W...

I was able to log in this morning on my laptop using Firefox browser. No issues with speed or actions. I'm still getting the "Forbidden" message on my iPhone which uses the Safari browser. I just tried Google Chrome access on my lap top and did not get the "Forbidden" response. Was able to go straight to the main forums page (unsigned in) and logged in just fine.
Confusing to say the least. I know our guru "baldeagle" is working on the issues and am sure he will share updates when he can.

That's the same crazy we are getting. What do you mean "not have access" ... errrrrrr.

I'm accessing the site via the Duck Duck Go browser (which I typically use anyway) and I'm not having any issues.
Yes, we are working the issue and will hopefully have some resolution on this today.

FYI - I have not been able to access Stovebolt since yesterday morning. I get a page saying the site might be down, but it's not (Pic 1). When clicking on a search link, I get Pic 2. I can access Stovebolt on my iPhone and second desktop computer and my laptop. Right now I did Ctrl+Shift N for incognito mode and it allows me to access the website. I've cleared my cache for the last month and reset my router, but still cannot get access. Very frustrating.

John, I get the same screen shots as you are. I tried your Control+Shift+N but that did nothing for me. We are having to "enter" via Duck Duck Go.
Frustrating indeed.

I have not been able to access the website since yesterday morning so today I decided to try Firefox rather than Chrome and I was able to access and log in okay. For those having trouble would it be possible to use a different browser (Firefox, Edge, or ?) to see if the problem may be related to Chrome?
I cannot explain this. I'm having no problems in Chrome, Safari, or DuckDuckGo. I worked with Utah York last night regarding these issues, and he was able to access the site on his phone and on a different computer. That seems to indicate that the problem is isolated to his main computer, which I know can be frustrating. The hosting company was working on the site yesterday trying to resolve some issue we were having. Today the site seems to be responsive. The new server setup, if we get it, would double the CPUS, increase the cores from 4 to 6, increase the the threads from 8 to 12, and memory by a factor of 4.5. That would allow us to handle a far higher amount of load with no issues. But, it increases the monthly cost by about 25%.
My suggestion would be to dump the cache and all history from your browser and see if that fixes the issue.
I found late last night that even though my laptop browsers (Firefox - default and Google Chrome - secondary) both where restored to access after clearing those browser histories and cookies, my iPhone "Safari" browser was still getting the "Forbidden" response when trying to go to the main forums page (I hadn't cleared the history - duh). I cleared the browser history on the phone and kaboom - access restored!
I did all this without having read Paul's post above -
I hope the message on clearing browser history can get shared so others can regain access as needed.
PS - Before starting to type this post there was no lag time between various actions and page switching, but as I went to click post reply, the action time took 15-30 seconds to actually happen. Still something going on that is affecting action speeds - Booo!!!

I am having trouble on my iPad, phone and PC. Had to use Microsoft browser at my office to access and post this. But yes, still getting the forbidden or no access screens.
Mike - I got a reply from Nick that after he cleared his browser history this morning, he was able to get back in through his usual browser. Can't hurt to give it a try.

I have tried clearing my Chrome browser history without improving my ability to access the site using Chrome so using Firefox for now. It's a little challenging as I use Chrome for everything else but at least I have a path to gain access.
I am wondering at least part of the problem might be VPN settings? For some sites I frequent I need to disable my VPN and later after posting a comment or reply resetting the VPN. It’s a hassle, but does cause me to think twice before posting.
Hoping someone can help. I cannot get on at all on my laptop. (apple macbook air) but have no issues on my iphone (apple 14 plus). Macbook is using Chrome as a browser, iphone is safari. Below are the responses I get on the laptop. Test page when i try to enter our site, forbidden when i try to access a tab I've had open.
"it's only old if you can't find a use for it; otherwise it's cool and i'll use it."
I saw those same pages yesterday. I was using Chrome as my browser. Gdads51 suggested that I clear the browser's history and cookies. I did as he suggested and it is now working. (If for some reason it doesn't work, try using a different browser.
Good Luck!

My IPad defaults to Safari which hasn’t let me in for a 2 or 3 days. At John and Pegs suggestion I downloaded DuckDuckGo and finally was able to get in. I thought the entire site was down.
Has anyone that's gotten the test page and/or Forbidden page display, that then got online using another browser, tried to clear the "cookies" through the button under your username list??? (see pic below)
It could be that you need to do both - clearing your original browser history/cookies and the Stovebolt "cookies" to restore access for the original browsers?

Reluctantly took the steps to clear Google Chrome browser / cache, and now able to use Chrome to log into Stovebolt.com. (Also cleared / expired Stovebolt cookies as had been recommended here).
I was continuing to have problems with Chrome but finally deleted all of my history, cookies, etc. for all time (not just recent) and have access again using Chrome.
I'm not smart enough to know what may have been causing the problem but hopefully this is a long term fix.
It appears all that cleaning may be helpful but the culprit may be the UBB upgrades they did recently. I'll let Paul explain better. Shoot, I had a hard time remembering how to clear my cache.
