Richard "Weeds" Weeden
July 1, 1932 - May 7, 2024

Leo let us know last week that Richard "Weeds" Weeden has passed away. Weeds had been around the Bolt since March 2003 and many of you may recall his 1949 Chevy Suburban in the Gallery.

Weeds also wrote up a great Tech Tip, Old 'Burb, New Bed
Ever notice there's a definite paucity of 'Burb bed kits available for the parts vendors? What's up with that? Well, if you're gonna do it (replace the bed), you're just gonna have to do it all yourself. And because there's no easy way to do this, you're left with two options -- doing it the hard way (compared to pickup bed replacement) or doing it the harder way. It's up to you to figure out which way is which. But Weeds has figured out a way to do it with plywood.

Weeds attending many of the Reunions in Kansas City. It'll take me awhile to hunt down some with Weeds in them. (Maybe some of you guys have some to share.) This one photo from the 2011 event John made part of the Panels & Burbs 2012 calendar, entitled "Burbs in the Mist."

HERE IS an obit for him that Leo found for us.

Weeds was another one who helped us build this site and have been its strength. Many participate in this passionate hobby -- from helping newbies, offering sage words of advice or kindness, or showing up with tools!

Weeds ... catch you down the road!

RIP, Weeds. I met him in Kansas City a number of years ago. Very likeable guy. He drove the almost 500 mile trip from Wisconsin at age 77 by himself. Beautiful Suburban, wipers didn't work but he persevered.

Meet Weeds at one of the Kansas City Stovebolt Reunions and remained friends since. Remember riding in his surburban with Leo, Cletus (also gone) and couple other bolters.
A few years ago my daughter and I made a 2 week trip, 15 states, visiting Stovebolters. We stopped in to visit Weeds and his wife. We enjoyed a lunch with them and he took us to an airplane hanger where he had his shop where he had also built airplane engines. We also got to see some nice "old" planes in other hangers. Such a nice visit and warm welcome. I wonder if he ever finished the Pontiac??
Rest in Peace Weeds, Your one of the good ones.

Weeds was a very nice guy. I rode with him in his Suburban on our way to tour the LMC facility at the KC reunion.

RIP my friend.
