Short and sweet. Inside spokes and rims are good, outside metal rims are shot. Too expensive to replace. Alternatives? After market? Old style bearings and races and brakes. Is there something modern that will work to replace this without throwing in the billfold and without an axle swap? Is there a market for the inner rims with good solid tight spokes? Thanks; all advice appreciated!

What kind of rims are they? Do you have a picture?
I've got a 28 car, and it has the 20 something inch disc wheels with removable outer rims, that system works fine.

The wood wheels on your truck use "demountable rims". The tire mounts on the demountable rim and the rim bolts to the "felloe" which is the metal ring around the outer end of the spokes. You might discover some system to replace the original wheels on your truck but I don't think you would like the way it looks. If you do, save your original wheels until you can find the rims you need to return your truck to it's original configuration. The rims you need can be found at swap meets and sometimes at a reasonable price because the seller has no idea what they fit. Good luck. Let me know if I can help.

Coker Tires offers a service that makes new rims . It may not fit your budget but may be worth checking out ? They have a collection of various antique vehicles so , even if they can't help with your problem , maybe they can steer you in the right direction . Good luck !

Hi guys... thanks for the ideas and help. I actually contacted the guy, Bill, who is in the business and he gave me three leads as to who makes the rims. All three wanted about $200 per rim which is way beyond the budget, so I will be attending some swap meets. It is a four year restore project and I am way ahead of the timeline already. wow, your making a LOT of progress. Its really looking good. Your hard work is paying off.

Your pictures tell a great story. I cannot wait to see the completed project. It seems not to many people would take on a project like yours.

I realize this is an old thread but I need to know what rims you found to use. I’m very new to this and need to get this thing rolling. I know the pattern is 6 on 5.5 but need a narrow rim with a 3 inch backspace max to clear the tierod. Anyone have info on rims?

Gaetto, 1st off - Welcome to Stovebolt! The original poster hasn't been seen in the forums for a couple of years, so you may not get any response from him. That being said, the better thing to do would be to start off a new post of your own. We need lots more details on what truck you are working on, make, model, year etc. and absolutely post some pictures that support what you are asking about.

Once we know more about your truck and the wheels you need, folks will be better able to offer suggestions to help you solve your problem.
