hi all,

first post here on stovebolt. i am looking at a 1949 chev 1 1/2 ton.it is in pretty good shape, no body rust, been converted to 12 volt, floors are in perfect shape, interior is decent but needs attention, and there are a few minor cosmetic issues to deal with. i should also point out this truck came from manitoba and it spent the better part of approximately 20 years parked inside a barn. it is stuck but i don't know how bad. what would be a fair offer for this truck. she is looking for $2500 o.b.o any thoughts. also where can i find a source for mainly brake and suspension parts for this truck nd maybe some drive line parts? the reason i ask is that i may need some of theses parts inorder to pass the safety inspection. i've found a source for the engine parts already if needed.

Welcome Jordan,
Nice choice of truck. You can still get your hydraulic parts, wheel cylinder and master cylinder cups, hard and soft lines and sometimes shoes from most major parts houses like NAPA or CarQuest. The shoes can be re-lined if replacements aren't available. The e-brake cables will probably have to be homemade but are simple enough to go that route.

Looks nice (cool visor!). Personally, I think $2,500 is a touch steep (even with the visor) for an unrestored ton and a half with a stuck motor. I think Scott has bought trucks that look better than that that are roadable for a lot less.

For parts, you should be able to find all the parts you need in our Links section as well as our Swap Meet (For both, go to the menu bar at the top of the page). I've been finding it fairly straight forward getting parts from our vendors and other Stovebolters for my '49 4400 that I'm doing a frame off resto of.

For an idea of what's in store should you decide to restore it, here\'s my in-progress 4400 project.

I very sadly noticed in your second picture taken back in 1999 the price of gasoline was around $1.00 Oh for the good old days!

Jordan -- You bet! If you get that truck, you'll have fun with it. Starting with a solid truck really makes a huge difference.

Larry, yeah, that's the hard part about looking back through some of those old pictures. I seem to recall that not too long after that picture was taken, we had a real price drop and in Kentucky, we were paying about 78 cents a gallon for a few weeks. Doesn't seem that long ago, but I guess it is.
