I think I found a good one, but it's a bit older then what I have been playing with before and a Chevy. What would this truck be worth on the open market?

Could bring a few thousand dollars from the right buyer.
Assuming no or very minimal rust and it runs and stops, I guess less than 5,000 would be fair but high, and it would be great deal for less than 1,500. It's hard to give a price without seeing it or knowing what others in the area bring.

Edit: After seeing more on the condition I say well less than 1,000, probably 3-600....

I drove the 54 that's listed in my signature line home about 30 miles. I gave $500 for it but I think I got a deal on it myself. Straight 54/55.1 trucks are getting hard to come by, I say snag it,

Oh come on Jolly is there really that much difference in the value between a Chevy and a GMC.
I know that pre 66 Chevy and GMC had some differences that could make a value difference mostly to a GMC fan as your self, any way I think you know what that truck is worth better than most of us. It looks like a very nice truck and I bet you would like it even though it’s not a GMC.
Hey by the way have you found any more info on Spicer 5 Spd's I am looking for one of the OD's.
I really liked your Spicer swap Wright-up and I have sucked up the info from 6066 GMC Guy web site but I would like to know what trucks I should be looking at to find one, a five speed Spicer OD that is.

More info on the Truck, I had to drive clear out to the north end of Honeyville to see it. the truck looks good when you first see it, but on closer inspection, there is a lot of problems.

First the good. it does start and run good, the brakes work if you pump them. the hoist works, but I could not see it work as it is loaded with junk wire and he did not want to dump it out. it's also got a two speed rear end that worked the last time he had it on the road. it has also been converted to 12 volt with an alt. body panels are fairly straight with out any rust through.


Now the bad. Both springs on the driver side (front & Rear) are broken, the floor is rusted out in places, and well there's no seat. there are no door panels, of really much on the inside of the cab, a marment had been living in it and pretty much had his way with the inside of the cab.


He told me it had been sitting about 15 years when he got it a few years ago, and it started right up for them back then too. The guy uses it around his little farm. it has been in this area for it's entire life.

Grant, the value question is more of a "older then what I have been playing with" than a "Chevy vs GMC" question. Yes GMCs are worth more to us GMC Collectors looking of trucks that have not been changed, but you'll find GMCs of this vitage are not as much the same as they look either. The reason I asked is because I have not been looking at truck of this vintage and have no ideal what thay are selling for and in what condition, but when one pops up right in your back yard as it were, then you got to check it out even if older or even the worng make.

As for your Trans question, I'm not sure, no one I know has found one yet in a truck. I have been told they are found in Diesel trucks, and milatry, but the truck I got my Toro-Flow diesel out of had a SM-420 in it....

A fellow up in this neck of the woods just sold one of those ultra-rare split front seats for $700! (Although his was complete and in a little better condition.) I talked with him a few weeks ago and he told me he had sold just the seat and was trying to get rid of the rest of the truck. This sale must have fallen thru..

For sure Jolly, That truck is worth salvaging, if for nothing else but that Factory Visor, & "Rare" Unison Seat Parts.
