I'm in the process of getting a 1.5-ton (dual) flat bed Chevy truck. I'm being told it is a 1935, but when I ran the vin it came back as a 1933. The truck doesn't have a title so that isn't any help. Is their any differences from the 1933-1935 1.5 ton? I'm just curios if the cab/vin had been swapped. Thanks a lot, Schick99s.

'34, & '35 model Chevy trucks look identical. They have 4 louvers, in each side hood panel. The '33 model Chevy Trucks, have more than four louvers, in the side panels.

Check out the Gallery, of this website, under the appropriate year models, & you'll see what I mean.

Consider, when you check into this, that America was in the darkest days of the great depression when that truck was built. It might have stayed at the factory or at a dealer's facility for a long time, for lack of a buyer. So it would not be strange at all if it was completed in '33, and finally first registered in '35.

Good point hotshoe a little American history from a great white northern neighbor. Now why wouldn't I have thought of that?

A 1933 truck has a flat grill and a head light bar that goes from fender to fender. 1934-5 trucks have a veed grill and short head light bars that go from fender to grill shell.

The truck has the 4 louvers on each side hood panel, and the light bars going from fender to grill. So I'm thinking 1935. Don't know why the vin came back as a 1933. I don't know a lot about that era of vehicles, but could it be a late 1933 with the 1934 look. According to the vin it came out of the Janesville, WI plant if that means anything. I will try to get some pictures of it on here if that would help. Thanks a lot for the help. I just became a member and already I have learned a lot, thanks to all Schick99s.

Here is a link to some pictures of it http://www.freewebs.com/schickracing/193515tonchevy.htm (didn't have the digital with me, so some are a little blurry). I'm thinking I will just register it as a 1935 or is their some where else I can get more information on the VIN. Is the vin in multiple areas or just the firewall? When I start on this I'm looking to keep it as close to original as possible. That’s why I want to make sure I register it under the proper year. Does anybody know what size engine they came with? All comments are welcome and I'm going to need all the knowledge I can get. Schick99s

When you say that you ran the VIN, are you talking about the numbers on the ID Plate. 1933 shoud be, OB, or OD, depending on the wheelbase, '34 PB, or PD, & '35 QB, or QD.

I thought it was OD but I will have to double-check it. I'm thinking that I mistook QD for OD; the plate was a little dirty. Thanks a lot for all the comments. I'm sure this will not be the only time I turn to you all for advice. Thanks again, Schick99s.

I have 2 1933 1.5 ton trucks, and what you have is not a 1933. It's a later model. Looks like a great project to start with however.
