For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! I always look forward to seeing updated pictures and comments on your truck. Hopefully when I get mine running and looking close to what you have...We'll set a date to drive toward each other and meet half-way somewhere. It'll prolly take us about 3 months though!

I'm driving it 23mls one way today, for its detailing and buffing. It will be entered in its first show weekend on fathers day. Within the month it will be going to its new home in the QCA to be a parade truck for the lumber yard. Got the hub to drum problem fixed this morning by installing a custom made shim betwwen the inner bearings race and the hub. This moved the hub out about an 1/8". Our 52 got wood truck will also be at this show, as its been reworked mechanically over the winter and is now in the daily driver catogory. I'll be posting a couple more pictures of the 47 with its bed on, then i'll most likely move back to tractors, which are way easier to work on. This truck project was fun , but it wears you down after a while. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 Member | | Member Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 | Update: I left home at 3:10 and at 3:50 I was 23 miles aways. Stopped at the elevator scales and had it weighed. 4840# without the bed on it and full of fuel. Had it up to 45 but it likes 40 a lot better. Its 92 degree today, and never never ran over 180 with the factory radiator. Got mobbed every where i went, there were almost accidents along the road from the people looking at it while driving. Had a couple of rattle i'll check later, but all in all it runs fines and thank god for the hood and cowl vents. I'm definatly looking to put a newer style tranny in it, as i dont care for doubling every gear and the grinding sounds it makes when it does go in. I can see why they made a better tranny as it had to be heck on the guy driving any distance. This truck was used to haul cattle up from MO for 25 yrs. I figured that the one way trip from southern iowa to the northern parts of that state was nearly 60mls. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 | It sounds like fun! I can't wait to take a relaxing drive in the truck when it is done. Until then, I'm living thru you!
How about more pictures!!!! BTW: I don't double each gear. I just put it in high and rev it up before shifting up. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | Hey Jeff, I have an SM420 from a 2 ton (E-brake on the tailhousing) just sitting in my shed.
