I've searched the forums and can't seem to find a previous post that answers my question. I know there's a site you can look it up by casting number, but I can't get my hands on that number right away. Also, who is a good source for internal parts for the older sixes? Thanks for the help.

I know mine originally had a 6 cyl, but it was swapped out for a small block some time in its history. Any Idea where to locate an original six? Or maybe i should just keep the v8. I dont know. If i go all original with the resto i will want an original six.

There was a thread somewhere about what year and availability of the V8. The bolts that hold the valve covers on are staggered on a 265, not symetrical like any other small block.

I beg to differ. Staggered bolts on valve cover came till 59, also on 283. One other trick is the lack of side bolts bosses on the 265 only. There were 283 made in 57 that also lacked the side mounts. If it has side mounts it is not a 265, but if it lacks, can be a 265 or a rare 57 283.
