I have been lurking for a month while I was in pursuit of my project. Just brought her home today. It has good bones, and I'm excited to see how she'll turn out!
It currently has a 235 inline 6 with a 4 speed tranny. It has been upgraded to a 12v system as well as front disc brakes.

I don’t recognize that as an original color but it looks great.

Maybe you can get some pictures of the old truck with a plane, on the runway or the like. We have had a few like that over the years. They make great calendar shots! (Hint hint!)

I'm not sure about original colors, but this girl is sporting some very tired paint. I've got a desire for a blue truck. I think there is one called Mariner blue. Sounds like you may be a color expert!
Well now that you mention it, I'll bet I could get a cool shot of the truck in front of my airplane! I'll take a look at the Collective area for ideas. Thanks!
So far, my ideas are for a weekend type driver. Maybe head to the coffee shops, grocery, or a car show or two. For now, I plan to keep the 235 inline for as long as it will last me. I may decide to go the small block route later. It needs paint and a new bed now, so those will be my focus for the near future. Just working on safety items now...it needs some seat belts.
I picked this up from a private seller in North Scottsdale who actually had two of these, plus an Apache and a Model A. So, it had good bones to begin with and I'm glad to be learning about these classic trucks.
My brother was a mechanic in his early days, so he will be my primary helper on the project. I have no skills as yet to work on this, but I have a huge desire to learn.

Doug, I'm no expert, but there's a ton of information in the Paint and Body Shop Forum on original colors. Mariner Blue would be a good one if you're looking at repaint. Now that I look closer at your pics, that brown paint MIGHT pass the 50 ft test.

If you've thinking about colors in general, you may get a kick out of reading the stories in the original Gallery and see all the colors there.

Welcome from the midwest. The color of your truck is near mine. Mine is the color of a 2008 Chevy Silverado, desert sand metallic. I bought a GMC Terrain near the color in 2012, called coco. Looks like you have a good start.Here is mine.. BTE my brother was stationed in the Air Force there. I did not get to visit because he decided to retire before I could arrange the trip.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the encouragement! It seems a little overwhelming, but I will take it a little at a time. The first day I brought it home I ran into some troubles. I couldn't get it started and my brother was able to figure out we needed a new ignition switch. It seemed the old one the tumbler was considerably loose and wasn't making a good connection. We changed it out and it starts like magic now!
Looks to me like you got a great truck to start with. I think you will enjoy your "trips in the truck" very much.

Thanks Peggy! I'll check it out. So far, I've only ventured out about a mile to get gas and go over to a friends to show my new ride off. Still getting used to driving a manual again and the gearing. I want to make sure everything is safe and solid so I will have some confidence in it.
