For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 212 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 212 | Has anyone had any experience insuring a big truck under a antique vehicle program. I would like to find someone who would insure the truck for what it is. An old toy that may see a little use hauling an occasional load. I would have no problem with a a low milage restriction. I do plan to put antique tags on the vehicle. I live in Virginia. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 70 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 70 | Bakerallen, not sure about the east coast but out here (washington state) I have State Farm on mine at $40 amonth for liability. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | I've got mine under a full coverage policy through Farmers for about $22.00 every six months. It's a rider policy that I set the dollar amount and is a limitted use type of policy. They say as long as I don't drive it to work everyday, I'm covered. I've got three of them covered this way, Scott | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 | I've kept mine registered like a normal pickup truck. Liability only for $6.50 per month. If I register for farm ID and weight the insurance goes up fast. In oregon you can weigh 10,000lbs on regular registration. It gives you some room for hauling small loads. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 | I'm in Va. Beach with a 6400 firetruck. Mine is covered as a daily driver or at least normal use. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 | I asked my State Farm agent here in Md about a rider like 48 big trucks has but they won't do it in Md. Haven't got either of my bolts registered right now so don't know the current rate. Most of the bigger antique trucks I saw at ATHS show locally last fall were with JCTaylor | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 41 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 41 | Try Hagerty collector car insurance, I have my 46 2 ton insured through them, really inexpensive. http://www.hagerty.com/

God bless our military, radical dictators and the ignorant people who follow them for enabling the USA to build these fine machines.

And should something awful happen to your truck, that gives the insurance company a foot in the door to refuse to pay off. Been there, done that with a '67 GTO that I'd just insured as a '67 Pontiac to keep my premiums down. Let's just say that when I did have to file a claim, I was no longer "in good hands". Fib a little bit and you'll have an accident for sure. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 | I was honest with my SF agent in Va. And if it breaks down on the road they send a rollback for it...no charge.

Now I could go with antique insurance however they do not allow towing a trailer. And,they also want a photo of the truck "in front of the locked garage I intend to keep it in  Forget JC Taylor, Gulfway and State Farm for that matter. They do not do business in Massachusetts. What's the sense of having an antique truck if you can't use it for anything personal.I can underestand the "Not for Hire" scenario however if I use my cabover to pick up a new refidgerator,is this allowed?
