I'm replacing the ball bearings & races with tapered roller bearings. Does the spindle just need to be smoothed up and sharp sides of the groove eased or does it have to be perfect? I checked the inner bearing fit and it is snug now, before I start with emery paper. Just don't want to get too carried away if I don't need to.  | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | Just polish the spindle with a sanding pad to soften the edges and to clean the spindle. There are no pressures or vacuums to worry about. The seals just keep water and dust out. If deep grooves worry you, set the seals deeper or less deep in the hub so it doesn't ride in the same groove.
