on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 51 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 51 | Got my 37 1 1/2 ton out for the first time this spring [fired right up!] and noticed that my rear axle seal had leaked a bit over the winter on the right side. Is it possible to remove the seal and run a bead of silicone on it and put it back in. As I remember that seal was a felt type deal with metal on the outside. If I need to get a new seal, who would have one? Thanks for your help in advance! | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | I just got two new ones today for my '48 1 1/2 ton from Carquest. They actually had them in stock. I think it's the same rearend they used for many years. What you may have to do is take your old one out and find the part number on it and see if a parts guy can cross reference it to a modern number or measure it up and find a match to it. You can put silicone sealer on it instead. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Next winter when I get around to relining the brakes I will replace with new seals. Thanks everyone- Get out and enjoy the Big Bolts! | | |
