Yep, the now 70 year old truck is still working. As is the 70 year old owner. There was a moments hesitation when he found himself on top of the load and had to jump off (or risk causing a few bales of hay to come off if a leisurely slide off was attempted). Hay's in the barn now and only a couple more 40 bale loads (app. 2000lbs) to go.
Couldn't function without my ace hay field truck driver, hay unloader assistant, Mrs. Kathy.
I often use my 8-person Suburban Carryall as the truck it was designed to be. With legal child seats (2) and/or seat belts (5).
It is a smooth, safe, and very quiet ride.
The two-seater front has not yet been set up with seat belts. The front “jump seat” might never be equipped with a seat belt? Does anyone have a first-hand recommendation for a seat belt assembly for the front "jump seat" in a Suburban Carryall? Thanks
I use my ‘57 3200 as a daily driver so it gets used for everything. I’ll have to start taking pictures of the work horse. The past two weeks I shoveled enough 3/8” gravel from my extra pile and drove it 7 miles to my in-laws to fill driveway holes. A few days before that it carried 40 bags of cedar mulch for my flower garden. Two months earlier it emptied out a 30’ storage unit a mile from my house for a garage sale of my beloved Mother’s things. If I ever get to do the sanding, filling, priming, and painting, I might be apprehensive about using it but I will.

GREAT shots. We're definitely in agreement on "real firewood". Various oaks are the only thing we burn and it's primarily red and white oak with the occasional smattering of pin and water oak along with post oak (which is a half brother to white oak). I do feel sorry for those folks whose choices are between aspen and spruce and pine. Poor choices all, except when you need a quick hot fire.
I have hauled a number of loads of dirt for my yard, more recently 2 maple logs @ 500 lbs each, towed my camping trailer (3000 lbs.) hundreds of miles as well as light duty work. They are meant to work, nice to be able to keep doing that.
I use mine all the time to haul dirt, compost, plants, and tree limb cuttings like I did yesterday. Drove to the brush collection center and two ladies unloading next to me told me how much they liked my truck. Then on the way home it started missing and running rough, so I pulled into a McDonald's parking lot so I could clean up the fouled spark plugs. One woman leaving yelled, "Fine ride Mister!". A man came over and asked, "Is it a straight six?". It still handles a pretty heavy load with no problem.

40 years ago I sold my 53 3100 5-Window Classic (second one I owned) and bought a 1953 3100 Suburban. The truck was to die for !
Without going into all the details.. My Suburban had no seat belts and I just drilled some holes and used bolts and large washers to place the three front seat belts . " Lap Restraints" not shoulder straps etc. Never placed "seat belt retractors " Never owned a new vehicle and drove 1953 3100's ( several ) for over 50 plus years. My Suburban needs work.. If You could have seen her in 1980 -- Woo Woo-- LOL. I gave the second and third seats to a friend in Oregon who was restoring another "burb"

Here you go. Stock 503, 5 speed, had 6.5 single speed diff, slow going, changed to 5.13 two speed, drove home from Alabama with leaking head gasket, Jerry repaired with silica gel, milled head .090", new valves and guides, shortened frame 4", added crane bed, pretty handy. Found PTO idler gear that fits inside trans, regular PTO box on top of that. All chrome redone by previous owner.

34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.
Might be a late model chsssis under that truck? Regardless, its gettin da job done. Or at least it appears to. Maybe photoshopped? Level jack is still down in rear of camper....

261 engine, 12v to actuate the trailer brakes, overload springs, yep I could see it pulling that trailer. Wonder what the pin weight is. 2000 lbs of hay on the flatbed of my '51 is a pretty good load. Don't know if I'd go much higher even with the bigger engine.
I have 22 bags of concrete in the back of mine right now.

Just picked up some lumber with my 49 and generally use it for everything I use my "full time" truck for. Here it is earlier in the year hauling some windows!

I plan to install a class 3 style receiver on my '51 3604 so that I can tow a tandem axle trailer to take my '28 LO 1-ton to shows. I'd love to see some photos of how folks have installed receivers to their stock chassis.

Since you did not designate size/style truck: I went to CrabDaddy event yesterday. We met a family we have not seen since COVID. A fellow my age reminded me about the time that 7 of us (adults) comfortably and safely attended the festival one year.
I have fully used my Suburban Carryall truck as a truck - to it's legal limits.
Added later: I would like to add that my "people carrier" Suburban has also carried 7 people with legal seat belts (no should straps yet). These 7 people included 2 children in legal child seats.
Last Sunday, Hambone and I hauled an International KB-7 firetruck project home for a friend. We were gifted a '50 5-window 1-ton for our efforts ...

The green turd hauled 600# of compost soil for one of our gardens and wine barrel growing pots. Good muscle stretcher for the truck.
