I know I have seen this posted before but here goes anyway. I just talked to my insurance company (Western Reserve) today about liability only on a 1952 6400 truck. They will only cover it as a commercial vehicle for $500 per year. What do the rest of you do with yours? I know there has to be some other way to go. Thanks for any info.

I've got my 48's covered under a rider policy that's under another vehicle that has full coverage. I decided the dollar amount it was worth and put liability and uninsured motorist on it and it costs me a little over $20.00 every six months. It's supposed to be a limited use policy but my agent said I could drive them whenever I wanted. I may just be lucky and have a car guy agent, but yours doesn't seem too eager to help you. May be time to shop around. My company is Farmers Insurance.
Good luck,
Scott

I had to do the same thing with my 1 ton chevy about 450 a year for comercial insurance I could have went with antique insurance for about 65 a year but then you cannot haul things in the truck hope you have good luck finding something cheaper but for the amount of enjoyment Iget out of my truck it's worth 450 a year

I'm not sure, but I've heard that not all of the antique specialty insurers have that hauling restriction -- you might want to call around to Haggerty's and J.C. Taylor. You can find their web sites on the Links Page -- just go to the menu bar at the top of this page and follow the link for "links" and then look for "Insurance"

Good luck!

You would need a large garage though to park the bigger trucks inside as that is another one of their rules.

In Pensylvania you are not supposed to drive at night with an antique plate although I know people do

Whether you must get commercial coverage or can use personal coverage depends on your state laws. Texas just changed the law to allow personal coverage on vehicles up to 25,000 GVW. Previously anything over 10,000 had to have commercial coverage.
