Hello everyone I would like to take a minute to introduce myself and more importantly my truck!

I have recently recived a 1948 chevy loadmaster 6100 2 ton. The truck was a gift form my grandpa who has been using it on his farm since 1951. It has a working 14 foot rough sawn oak dump box, four speed manual with a two speed rear end, a runing 235 and has logged over a hundered thousand miles(engine has been rebuilt). It has dual real wheels but I had to remove the outside weels in order to get it on the trailer.

My grandpa has 4 or 5 pre 1955 HD trucks sitting around the farm place. But since i'm just getting into the auto restoration world I figured I better start with the one in the best shape.

I have spent the moring reading the forums. Learned alot and recived a couple of good laughs! I look forward to learning and talking to you in the future!

That's a fine looking truck! The wax does wonders for it. Should polish up really nice. Looks like it will be a fairly easy restoration.

Welcome aboard Scott. Nice lookin truck! Seeing how you live in Minnesota, I'll suggest that you trim it out with a dark green color! Nothing would look better than a nice "Packer" paint sceme! :p

That's a great looking truck! Hope you can make it down to the LeSueur Pioneer Power Show the last week in August. They're featuring old trucks this year. I plan to be there with my '47 Loadmaster also. Those two would look good next to each other.

Great looking truck and the how to shift directions still readable on the dash. Forgive my ingnorance but is that an original radio? I thought the one in my Grandfathers 47 AD had push buttons but maybe that one was aftermarket

I'm sure glad to see ya, another Scott with a BigBolt from the midwest. Look out everyone, we're multipling, quickly. There are a bunch of new members from the Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois area as of lately. Looks like it must be a cold winter to get so many on the computer instead of out in the shop.

Hey guys thanks for the welcome!!

kb3csw I just went and looked at the radio and I have no idea what to make of it. There is a cable coming off both knobs going no where, if it was going to a radio at one time I can't tell. When I talk to my grandpa next I'll try to remember to ask.

Well guys I do have 2 questions. What is the definition of "stovebolt" and what does AD stand for?

AD stands for Advance Design, which is the model name Chevrolet applied to the '47 - '55 1st trucks. GMC used New Design.

Stovebolt was an early name for the Chevrolet six cylinder motors and has long been applied to the vehicles that carried those motors. Here the definition is a little broader and welcomes pretty much all GM trucks up through 1972.

So does anybody have a recommendation for a good brake rebuild kit or a disk brake upgrade?

try napa for the brake parts. ya ain't goinna go fast enough in the truck to need discs, and besides, it would be a p.i.t.a. to make the change.

don't forget to rebuild the master cylinder, and make sure the parking brake works GOOD! it's all the brake ya got if ya bust a brake line/hose.

Scott, you are getting the fellers all stirred up here again! Don't get me wrong, that's a good thing. They love to gather 'round and welcome anybody that pulls in with a new truck.

Doncha see, they just somehow enjoy climbin' all over a new stovebolt to look at what it's got and how much better it is than their own.

I will agree with everyone that you have a great lookin' truck.

Glad to hear you are makin' yerself welcome. That's just what you should do. Just remember, anything about buyin' and sellin' appears in the "Swap Meet" and no place else, cigars and beer are welcome in the garage for them that's old enough (some of us look really old!), discussion is best left to the Greasy Spoon, and it's gotta be kinda nice--no shoutin', no profanity or name callin', and no religion or politics. (John's probably gonna bust my chops 'cause I sorta got into it about courts and legal stuff with 54GMC, but we don't git mad a one 'nother, jest say what we think).
