Hello all, been reading this forum for a while, thought it was time to finally get involved. Just purchased my second stovebolt! Both are "Big Bolts".
A couple years ago I picked up my first, 1961 Chevy (Viking?) C60 Wayne School bus, we are going to cover it into our family RV. It's going to take some doing, but there won't be one like it.

A few days ago I found my second. A 1947 Chevy 2 Ton. A legitimate "field find". The owner said it came with ranch. He had never seen it move. Been parked for the last 3 decades. He has no idea where the title is, so it will be bill of sale only. That's not too big of an issue here in Montana. We agreed on a price and I set off to tinkering. Had it running in about 2 hours. I need to get some air in a couple tires and refill and bleed the brakes. Going to attempt to drive it home on the backroads (about 80 miles).

Looking forward to getting her home! I'll update by making some new threads over in the Big Bolts section!

Welcome to the 'bolt. interesting truck, particularly the fixture over the front. Maybe to load on extra hay?

Great truck. Most of the field finds around here have the windows shot out at least.
Looks like a hay truck to me also. I like the way the tire chains are stored.
Good luck on your 80 mile break-in trip.

Looks like it might have had a hydraulic winch possibly for loading something judging by the rollers on the back of the bed and the hydraulic controls on the steering column. Probably PTO driven, with control levers just in front of the seat. Maybe a tilt bed? Interesting truck for sure. Good luck on that trip. Check out those old tires closely. You don't want to have a blowout.

I'm with you, JD model A was the sound of my childhood, that & GMC V6s .

I'd drive it home.
Some pic of the Viking bus would be great, easy to post on this site.

My Dad was a carpenter and the local lumber store used a truck with a bed just like that. No strap on fork lifts back then. The bed would tilt and the rollers would allow the entire banded load to be slid off the bed to unload.

I agree with klhansen about the extra hay on the rack!

Thanks for the info. And yes, we'll be very careful diving home. We're going all backroads to limit the traffic exposure. If it can't be driven safely, I'll have to tow it.
Figured out the picture attachments. Can I still link photos using an address? Or are we suppose to just use the attachments?

As per requested, here are some bus pics. The story is that this bus was previously converted into a makeshift camper. We got it running and drive it about 60 miles home. You literally cannot wipe the smile off your face while driving one of these!

We have our own plans to convert it so step one was gut it completely. We were in the process of moving and it made for a great moving truck! Now it sits, waiting it's turn. It is currently referred to as "the hardware store" it's got a little of everything inside.

Amen to that!

Does the bus have a 261?

Indeed it does! That bus will do 50-55 mph. When we start our conversion the bus will become a diesel. Mainly for safe cruising down the highways. It's quite possible that the new-to-me 47' will end up with that 261.
