I am hoping someone has dealt with this before...

Since I will soon be in the process of replacing both side windows in my truck because they are cracked and have never been a big fan of "crank" windows anyway, I am considering installing power windows...

How hard is this to do in a '37 Chevy truck and what would the best fit be for power window motors and controls in doors with the clearances the '37 has?

Any suggestions on any newer cars or trucks with power window motors (that may be found at a wrecking yard) that would be the right size or semi easy to retrofit like this?

Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions...

Look for the type that use a remote motor and cables. Specialty Power Window has a universal kit and Spal Power Windows makes a really nice universal kit. Joe

Hey thanks Joe...
So am I to take it that there is nothing available in newer cars or trucks that can be used for the purpose and that I am looking to buy a custom specialty part instead of just pulling something out of an existing vehicle already on the market?

Thanks again...

Junk yard parts should work if you can find some close. Look at the Spal site, it might give you an idea what to look for. If you can, get the motors and stuff from rear doors on four door cars, they are always in better shape from less use. Measure the distance you need to lift and lower and look for same size doner car. Ford used cable drive alot, and our Honda had a small set up in it. The big gear drives from the '70s would be to big, I don't think they would fit in the door. Joe

One thing to keep in mind is those old doors dont have a lot of room inside for all the mechanicals... check out a few of the "hot rodders" magazines, there are ad's for a few types that are reasonably priced and will fit the skinny doors nicely.

Another quality post.

Check out www.itsasnapwireandcable.com I have used their power window kits on 2 old cars. Real easy to use and new. Plus you can't beat the price.
