I put a ford rearend in my 46 pickup and the shifter is now on the floor. I am trying to figure out how to install the ebrake to work on the truck now and am not sure what will be the best route. I originally wanted to use the stock ebrake lever but there is not much room in these trucks to begin with and we made the floor panel. Should I stick to the plan to use the stock lever or is there a setup out there others have used.....

I mounted a original lever to the side of my aftermarket automatic Lokar floor shifter. It looks original and works just as well. You can get a foot operated pedal off a late model car or truck, they are pretty easy to adapt. Joe

I installed a Lokar foot pedal type unit in my truck. Biggest issue was routing of cables from rear wheels to pedal location - needed to miss driveshaft and exhaust pipes.

Heck, just put it in reverse and forget the e-brake. that is assuming you have a std. tranny.

Thanks for the ideas. I am going to try what Joe did first and if I don't like it I will try a foot pedal. I am installing a single lap belt in the center so i will work on that as well this weekend.

I am not sure about MI but in MA we can't pass inspection without a working ebrake....even in antique registered vehicles.

I just picked a truck with the same setup and it looks like i can use the orginal lever and rod going to the back.It looks like if i use the original ford brake cables and use 2 of the short ones it will work fine. Hope that helps.

Don't have to pass inspection where I live(thank goodness) probably coming someday.

I think I forgot to mention that I have swapped the engine/tranny with a ford 302/c4 combo so the mount for the ebrake is the issue. I will try to make a mounting bracket I guess and see if I can still use the stock lever.

Search the wrecking yards. Some of the old half tons had a dash mounted hand lever park brake. (horizontally operated) Same style was used on Corvairs and other budget GM's in the 60's You can also check the bigger 2.5 - 5 ton trucks for a dash mount hand lever. (vertically operated) My 78 GMC 6000 has one. Not a really popular item, so they go pretty cheap.

dodge vans of the 70's used a horizontal brake lever and i used it vertically for years attached to the kick panel. ron

Thanks for the ideas guys...I am hoping to have time this weekend to do some more work on the truck and If the stock lever is not realistic I will be sure to look into your suggestions.
