If I could’ve attended.....

If I could afford to gas up the 292 over the 180 mile drive, you might have seen this debutant. All could have helped me to adjust the brake light switch, and regasket a leak on the T221 transfer case (I evidently did not get a good seal subsequent to rebuild). But, very well I will toil in my own garage and contemplate the better days and strategize about how I can get you all to fix my truck problems.

I’m there in my mind. I left home early yesterday. I fooled 52Carl with a magic trick about 10 minutes ago. He’s changing his underwear right now. I’ll make huevos rancheros tomorrow for breakfast and then head home (in my mind). Does anyone have that huevos rancheros recipe? It truly is a remarkable breakfast.

Well, if i knew who she was, and she was willing, I'd bring her to Homecoming (or anywhere else she wanted to go).
This pic was taken at a small car show where some pinup girls wanted to pose with old vehicles. No one told me that she would be on my truck.
There are some scratches on the front splash pan from her high heels. Whenever I look at that spot, I just stop and smile.

We would have done The Poorhouse Road Tunnel tour as it provides a nice photo, about a mile as the crow flies from Grigg's shop/home.

We would have taken fun rides, seen here...

My homecoming weekend was spent in the shop.

I spent this weekend trying not to scratch up a $15,000 paint job while aligning the front clip on a '52 3100.
Only two gouges so far, but not to worry because the painter has to redo a couple of his bad spots nearby these spots anyway.
I'm sure he will still pitch a fit though. He IS a painter after all. That is how they vent all of the fumes which they inhale.

Whew, what a Homecoming! Great to see everybody and your trucks! Below is a shot to end the weekend with -- Doug and I convoyed virtually and we made it home just fine yesterday afternoon. Glad no one minded that Freyja came along.

Actually story ... Charlie had been parked in the garage (formerly known as the "OR" from Homecomings past) since before Thanksgiving. I had stored a riding mower in the back and needed to bring it to the new HQ. At the same time, I thought it would be great for Doug to follow along in case Charlie had any issues (none!) and to help me unload the mower. At the same time, we could get a shot of both our trucks in near real time, to be in the spirit of this thread



Carl -- I like Cosmo's last shot, too. That's a good woman who will put her shoulder to it so you don't risk breaking a nice fence rail! And the three friends picture shows us how little this hobby has changed -- that looks just like Grigg, Sweet and Marlow on the diesel chassis charging through Winchester

If we had held the event formerly known as Homecoming at HQ this year, the weather would have been spectacular. sunny and 50's into the '60's.

Who has the recipe for huevos rancheros that we enjoy every year.? I looked up a recipe on the Internet and it was good, but fell short of the one I enjoy at homecoming.

Victor's shot, although composed reasonably well, is a very sad picture. I think it paints an emotive portrait of the very sad current state of the ODSS experience -- it's weltschmerz, if you will...

2 beers ... one empty chair ... a table set for ... no one ... a blind truck searching for companionship (so close, but elusively out of reach)... empty van with open doors... the barren school bus, bereft of its former child-derived vibrancy that's now faded into pastel browns and other depressed hues ... Oh, I can't continue ... I weep, I weep ...

I cleary see Progress! The pickup, though not complete is out loud and proud after some winter wrenching, possibly longing for an ODSS event in the near future. The other two beauties are snug as a bug waiting for their turn in the spring sunlight.
On the table, obviously, one of those beers has been consumed as Victor sat in that chair, alone with just the spring birds chirping away, with a litlle peace and solitude looking across his vibrantly greening yard.

I know. I am sad and lonely! You guys somehow got together for Homecoming without me. The closest ODSS member living nearest me is Billy. I was thinking about contacting him, but he said he was quarantined . . . and I think it's just because he didn't want to see me with my mask on.

I was planning on putting the '57 in the pic too, since that what I was planning on driving to Homecoming, I got in to start it and the battery is dead! So indicative of all Homecomings I go to, problems with the truck.

And John, I did mow the grass! Right after I finished those two (well, maybe more) beers. I would show you a pic, but you would no doubt find something else in the background to make me feel more sad and lonely.

Very well. I will reholster the Underwood while you go work on your weltschmerz. A german affliction requires a germanic medicinal, ja? May I suggest a lager of some sort? A diet pilsner will do, as a subsitute, should your pharmacy be out of lager (I recommend the 12 or 16 oz dosage).

I think I had weltschmerz once. I had to drive 4 miles to get home after leaving a Mexican fast food joint, which, by the way, had not a single Mexican working there (bad juju).
I made it the first mile and pulled into a 7-11. They had a giant bathroom with no lock. They had a motion detector light switch which goes out in too short of time, and the sensor was too far away from the throne to be activated to come back on by frantic arm waving.
Not knowing when the next patron would barge in on me, nor when the light would go out, I was in a tight spot.
I did what I could, but it was clearly a rush job.
I left out of there and made it 1 mile and 17 feet before I had to stop again. There was a golf course and all I had was the cover of darkness.
I took advantage of this in a long, narrow flowerbed. I needed all of the width and most of the length.
I left out of there and barely made it the house where I was able to cast the rest of the demon which possessed my alimentary canal.
Weltschmerz seems a fitting term for this malady. Though unaware at the time of the correct spelling, I distinctly recall making a noise very similar to that word, and with the distinct and forceful urgency common to the German dialect.
My only regret about this episode was thinking about the golf course superintendent confronting the migrant groundskeeper the next morning about what happened to his flower bed. I can hear him in my nightmares, "Sanchez, get over here, and don't lie to me. It had be you. It reeks of Mexican food!"
