I purchased a 53 1/2 ton 3100 series from the original owner who told me the truck was all original. The truck has a 235 that the owner says was a swap done at the dealership because of reoccuring problems with the 216. Has anyone heard of this before? | | |

I have a '51 that was built with a 216, but it is now sporting an old splash-oil 235. Because the 235 is so old, I am assuming that the swap was done either right when the truck was new, or within its first year or two. So swapping out a 216 right off the bat isn't completly unheard of.

They also retitled as a 42. I asked my Grandmother about that as She worked for a dealer about that time and she said that was fairly common back then. | | |

Check the casted numbers on the block to see when the engine was made. It will help you determine if the 235 you have was possibly around when the truck was new.
