I have an early 1946 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton Truck. I am going to start making a rod out of it this fall. It looks like I will be going with a 350 engine, TH350 trans, and a Mustang II aftermarket front end. Can anyone suggest a good rearend for this truck? I am looking for something that will bolt in without much modification and disc brakes would be nice also.
I would also like to hear from anyone who has a 1941-46 that has been rodded. What kind of troubles or road blocks that you ran in to.... | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 | I put a Chev Nova rear end in my 46, haven't driven it yet but it looks alright. took it all apart to check the gears etc, everything looked good so sealed it back up, sanded and painted it and it looks like new. Had to rebuild the rear brakes and cylinders but thats normal. My 46 also has a Chev S10 front end. Trying to fit the 350 drivetrain was tricky but I got it in. Looks a little narrow in the front end but wide tires will cure that. Good luck in finding a good differential. Rims are 7" with 4" backspacing on the front and 5" backspacing on the back.. Rear tires are 235 60 15 and the fronts are 205 60 15.
