Only place to put the battery on my 49 Chevy 1/2 ton with small block is under bed,box welded to frame,want to install battery cut-off switch and remote battery terminals. I would prefer the switch/posts inside cab but don't want to drill holes bottom of cab. Inside of inner fender would work;more cable to route and secure,connections exposed to rain,ect. Battery removal will require taking some bed boards out. Would appreciate any ideas/input.Thanks. :confused:

On my '49, I put the battery in the stock location. The floor was a solid piece, so I made the bottom of the battery tray drop out. There are kits like these made since then. I also got some remote jumper terminals from Cole-Hersee. Also had a disconnect which I mounted in the frame, inside the passenger front fender. It was a bit of a reach. Whatever you do, the battery will need to be serviced / cleaned at regular intervals or the life of it will be shortened.

if you go the extra expense of an optima gel battery the maintance is a lot less and the power is greater. it can even be installed upside down. ron btw somepeople install the battery in front on the fire wall where the heater motor sticks out using a newer battery carrier.

when moving the battery a distance from the original location, make certain you use heaver than normal cables to overcome voltage loss.

Is the battery mounted somewhere else besides beneath the floor in a 49? My battery is mounted underneath the passenger floor in my 48 and I can't see why a V-8 would interfere with the battery?

Hi,Wrench Fetcher,sub-frame of Firebird front end blocks part of standard pocket for battery; WE b OLD, I will check out the gel battery, have to buy new battery soon for this project; I can't picture it fitting on firewall but it might be good for remote battery box;I am making cables out of welding cable, it has four wires in it,and I am sodering on terminals,is this o.k?

I'm guessing you did an overlap and not a cut and weld?? Use battery cable, not welding cable. Battery cable comes in many sizes.
