Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 2 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 2 | I just picked up a 36 High cab with the intentions of building a hot rod. Figured I would check her first before deciding which direction to take it as I would not want to send something off to the scraper that should have been kept for posterity sake. It is a 36 cab and chassis, enclosed drive line, 2 speed rear and manual brakes. Fenders are in good shape so I have considered adding a pickup bed. mustang 2 front end and a modern drive line. The other option would be to go open wheel with a homemade 2x3 frame and a homemade bobbed bed. Either way the cab needs wood, lower cowl patches and rockers. Any suggestions on where to find lower cowl patches? or just do my best to make some out of 16ga steel? Jason

I've always thought those old flatbed trucks are a piece of history and look great. We all agree it's your truck and once you decide which way you decide to go we will help you get there! It's amazing what Stovebolters can do with trucks.....oh, check out the links sections for a list of vendors. For your model year it'll be mainly 2 or 3 of them. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 Moderator - The Electrical Bay | | Moderator - The Electrical Bay Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 | Welcome to the 'bolt. Nice truck. There is a 37 parked around the corner from my place almost identical to yours. I drool over it every time I drive by it.

There will be folks on here who will do their best to make you feel like a bum for hotrodding a piece of history and others will praise you for your skills at fabrication. We have a sub-Forum called The HiPo Shop where you can chat with like minded people. Good luck with your project.

If you have the ability just make your own patch panels, 16 guage is a little thick, 18 would be easier to work with. Don’t scrap the rims if they don’t have any rust through, they are getting harder to find. I am not a camping person but I could see it with a low camping cabin on the back or a stake bed. Also if you want to drive it a lot build a luggage locker on the back. It is an unwritten story, Like on Startrek Make it happen. There is the expertise on here to help you along the way.
