It's a 49 GMC 1/2 ton with a SBC with long tube headers and 700r4. I'm 2 years in on the frame off build. I want the final exhaust to be relatively quiet. A bit of a low rumble when accelerating is fine but quiet while cruising in the city or on the highway. Any suggestions would be appreciated . I have a 69 Camaro that has the typical muscle car sound at idle , the lopey rumble and quite a bit louder while accelerating. I don't want that for the truck. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,272 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,272 | In the muffler business, they call them Cadillac mufflers. Full flow, but whisper quiet while puttering about. You do hear what's going on when you step into it though. I have them on my '49 3100 with a 350 with just a bit of a cam in it. The muffler shop should know what you are looking for if you tell them "Cadillac mufflers".

Have two on my hot 350 in my 37. They have "burned out" a little now and sound sweet but not obnoxious at all. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 2,232 Moderator: Interiors, Texas Bolters, Name that Part | | Moderator: Interiors, Texas Bolters, Name that Part Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 2,232 | I put a magnaflow 20 on my truck and love the deeper sound. It has 2 1/2" pipes in and out, and using two of them in an exhaust system for a relatively small engine like a 350 gives virtually no back pressure and a pretty quiet sound. I built up a 318 Dodge engine for my son's pickup several years ago for just the sound you're looking for- - - - -quiet cruising and just a little bit of bark on hard acceleration. Jerry
