For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2019 Posts: 3 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2019 Posts: 3 | Parting out a 1957 GMC dumptruck and while wrenching on it yesterday I was surprised to find a red vinyl pouch in the engine compartment that says it is for windshield washer fluid. Several questions here! Number one why is it a vinyl pouch and not some kind of solid reservoir, number two is there a fluid pump somewhere? Last where did it squirt onto the windshield? Thanks! | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Old Blue 1978, as far as I am aware there were no factory installed windshield washers. I think what you have found is part of an aftermarket kit, the pump was a rubber diaphragm that was mounted on the floor usually by the dimmer switch and it was operated by pumping with your foot. Nozzles and tubing to plumb them came with the kit along with instructions on where and how to install them, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,995 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,995 | My '57 Chevrolet two ton has factory washers, glass jar under the hood, rubber bulb with steel peddle, nozzles are incorporated in the wiper post. Maybe it was a LCF standard equipt.

As posted above, there was no GM/chevrolet factory installed windshield washer, but there was an accessory foot-operated windshield washer, bottle type (at least for 56/57/58 Chevrolet trucks).

Please do not re-write history to fiction. That bag is GMC Part Number 2233573 - Windshield Washer Reservoir The red windshield fluid reservoir and associated pump were original equipment GMC that started in '54 and went through to '59. If you doubt that, here are the GMC factory accessory pages for that system https://photos.app.goo.gl/Y3486xzYXiJhi8c78https://photos.app.goo.gl/U8Zq91gHzviTmQbu6 | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Not sure who the “real” comment is for but I have seen a lot of good truck guys alienated by similar posts. I agree with Brad. Thread is done.
