The Stovebolt Site Forums The Side Lot Annual Stovebolt Reunion (Kansas City) First Time Attendees

Looks like we will again have some first time attendees and just a heads up on what to expect and bring.
This is a family event, bring the spouses, kids and friends.
We do not talk just about trucks all day. We get to know each other and backgrounds.
Work, family, history and call each other by their first names.
We will have a Stovebolt meeting, door prizes and group picture.
T-shirts should be in our control Friday evening.
Lawn chairs are a must and we will have the Stovebolt awning and a couple more for shade or rain.
You are not required to bring a Stovebolt to the event. But if you don't drive a truck you'll have to park in the spectator parking area and entry is free.
When you pull into the gate, just tell them you are with the Stovebolt group. All the show hosts know us and will point you right to us.
We have our own area and park together. If you don't have a show truck, please pay the entry fee and park with us. All of it goes to a great local children's charity.
Friday evening at the Alderson's BBQ and private vehicle show is really a big treat, please try to attend that.

Enough typing and I'm sure I missed some things, so I need some past attendees to chime in here and help out.

Don, I would add to the mix that food and drink is available on the grounds as well as restroom facilities. Lots of merchandise to buy at various vendors. In all likelihood it will be HOT so be prepared. Y’all have fun.

We usually walk 100 feet and have Little Richards BBQ after the meeting, It's as good as it gets. (I suggest the ribs)
This is a big truck only show, with around 200+ entered and we are just a small part of it.
The hosting club really treat us good.
There will everything from mini trucks to semi's.
Smokey and the Bandit will be there.

My dad and I are attending for the first time from Michigan. I have always heard about this show, so really looking forward to it. We both have 54' Chevy trucks, but neither one are ready to drive yet, so we will just be spectators this year. What are the details of the "Friday evening at the Alderson's BBQ"? Is this something that is open to all?

We go by first names when we meet and greet.
You'll have a lot of talking to do with Ron (WeBOld), he has a nice 54.

The Aldersons BBQ is open to all Stovebolter's and bring your camera.
Their collection could have it's own museum.
Great folks and great hosts.

We get folks from all over the USA, Canada and from the other side of the world.
Tim (TPR57C) has hinted about attending again, but he will have to bribe Karen or bug her until she says "Just Go".
I'll start drafting a Stovebolt schedule tonight, along with info about the location of the Aldersons BBQ.

Thanks for the initial info. We will keep an eye out for the details to follow. It looks like Classic Parts of America (old Chevy Duty) is close to the show. Is it worth checking out their showroom on Saturday? Also, I am brand new to these forums/the Stovebolt page. Is the Stovebolt group a club? Is there a membership?

Yes, Classic Parts is about 1/2 mile away.
Worth a stop by and Great folks.
I believe they sponsor the show.
There are also after show get togethers back at the hotel.
Adult beverages are welcome and no driving.

Due to a snag, You might not be able to see your posts yet.
But we are working on that.

Edit: Snag has been corrected and you should have full access to Stovebolt.

To confirm, the Alderson gathering is Friday night the 7th, correct? What time? I am a first timer, and I saw somewhere that there is a cruise from 6pm-10pm. Is this worth going to?

Nothing on the show schedule shows a cruise-in, but there is a good chance there is one like last year.
Mongo will know and I hope he chimes in here. He is one of the show directors.

No Membership to read and be a part of the Stovebolt group is required.
But, donations are welcome to keep the site up and running.
If you feel like you have learned from this and feel like you want to donate.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Macon Street.

We used to stay at the American Inn right next door the Holiday Inn Express.

American Inn is dive hotel, bar attached to it and pool area to get together after show hours.
Cheap smoky rooms, but it was just a place to crash and get a shower the next morning.
Had a lot of good times sitting around the pool.

Then we did the Econo Lodge for a few years, across I-29 from American Inn.
Last year one of our members found schringes in the bed of his truck when he got home.
So we opted to get in a better area.
Don't get me wrong, We felt safe in that area and there are some good places to eat real close going to and from the hotel.

But with the show hosting club, recommending a hotel in a better, area, Vicki and I will be staying there.
North up toward the airport.

$84 bucks a night, plus tax, if you tell them you are with the Midwest All Truck Nationals.

Another tip, stop at the Red X to stock up on whatever you may need. It's on the way to the show and a very interesting store.

The trip to Alderson is a way out from the show location and if you can get in a convoy with someone that knows the way is a big help. Especially if you are directionally challenged like me.

The Alderson's are east of KC and just north of Grain Valley.
I-70 east to Grain Valley, then north on Buckner Tarsney rd a couple miles.
Left on Truman rd.
Looks to be about the fourth driveway on the right on Truman.

Directions are easy.
The trouble will be rush hour on eastbound I-70, out of KC Friday afternoon.
Hoping we can have HQ set up and leave the park before 4pm and maybe be ahead of the rush.

Another note.
The ramps at I-435 and 210 (Armour rd) are closed.
That is the way a lot us have used before, coming and going to the show before.
So seek another path.
Check the Modot road condition site to chose your path.

I too would also like to add that stopping by Classic Parts of America is a must if you are out of state. Very nice show room! I'm a local and have been there too many times for my pocket book! LOL

Will there be a meeting place for a caravan going to the Alderson's place?

Vicki and I hope to leave the park before 4pm to beat the Friday rush hour.
I-29 south thru downtown and then I-70 east to Grain Valley
North on Buckner Road about 3 1/2 miles.
Left on Truman rd about 1/4 mile and right into the nice driveway with the white wooden fence,
Go past the house and you will see the showroom down on your right.

It's going to be a rough weekend with all that is going on.
But we will survive!

FYI....I went through the 210/435 intersection yesterday. There is construction but it was passable. May be a challenge during peak times tho.
