Hi guys I just inherited my Grandfather's 1950 Gmc 1 ton grain truck. It has sat for 15 years not running and now i'm trying to bring it to life. I have found some info on other sites and this one as well about the serial numbers and what they mean, but i'm having trouble locating parts for the old girl. It was built in canada so it has a 216 in it. Looking on Rock Auto for parts for it but it lists the motor as a 228. Will the parts for the 228 fit the 216? I need a fuel pump, brake parts, and some spare ignition parts. thanks in advance

firstlight, welcome to the Stovebolt. I'm not very informed about Canadian built trucks but you never know what a previous owner, or your granddad, may have switched along the years.
I'd double check the numbers and go from there. If its indeed a 235, or 228, then that is the engine to buy parts for.
There are other GMC members here that can help.

Since this is the Welcome Center I'd suggest posting questions in the best forum. Engine questions in the Engine Forum and driveline questions in the driveline forum and paint, well ask those in the paint and body forum.....You will get faster and more answers that way. Be sure to watch for your Canadian friends. They are here.

Welcome to the site. If it is Canadian built, it will have Chevy power. Some auto parts stores have the US parts catalogues or the engine may have been swapped. As mentioned, just run the engine casting number and find out for sure.

As others have pointed out Canadian GMC trucks had Chevrolet drive lines. So a inquiry for GMC info.
will turn up US spec stuff.

There is good information from folk that have Cd. knowledge on this site.
Some of us have GM of Canada service and parts books. No reprints for these.

Is your truck a single wheel? or Dual wheel? In 50 the brakes were still Huck brand, Drums will be hard to find.
Bendx came in a year for light units and another couple for the larger trucks.
If your engine is tired, a full pressure 235 or 261 would be a wise improvement. Look for a Cdn. Pontiac six.

Keep those One Tons rolling! Lots in Alberta.

If you’ve indeed checked your number on the engine and you’re sure you have a 216, good on ya. However, I just assumed (no checking) I had a 216 in my one ton and turns out it was a low pressure 235. The Big Bolts up in Canada tended to use GMC engines, whereas 1 tons and down used Chevy power. I love my 1 ton GMC with its newly rebuilt 261. Howie makes a good point. Also, check in Chev big bolts from 57-62 for the 261. That’s where I got mine. CHeck out the tech tip in the links. Welcome to the Bolt. You officially have the worm! 😎
