Hi folks.

I just signed up even though I’ve been watching the forums for some time. I just brought my fathers old 38 flatbed to Tucson from New Mexico. I got rid of all the other family “treasures” but just could not part with this one. My father brought it home from Denver when it was brand new. It worked hard hauling apples to Texas when it was new and later as a fuel truck when my father went into the dirt moving business. I have a picture of it with a D4 dozer loaded on the back! It is a wonder it survived. All the paint has been replaced by a coat of rust (but not rusted through). The truck runs and the brakes sorta work but it is far from roadworthy so my first project will simply to get it roadable.

Now that I have it home I have to decide how far to take the restoration. I’m inclined to leave it looking like a rusty old truck but get all the mechanicals in good order. These are great forums so I’m sure that I’ll find help and inspiration from the members and resources here.
Thanks already!

Welcome, Cwalling, to the Stovebolt. We love it when a family member "cares" for the heirloom. Sounds like a very interesting project and well worthy of being on the road, working as it was meant to, and earning its keep. Drive it and let it talk to you as you go along and you'll figure out what it needs and what it is telling you what needs to be done. We are here to help and be sure to check in at the Big Bolt Forum....and be sure to ask any questions you may have in the garage forums for the best results. Congrats on your truck.

Welcome Cwalling, I have to agree, it's nice to have one that's so long in the family. These trucks often outlast their owners. Hopefully you have someone to pass it down to in due time. Good luck trying to put a plan together. Let us know how you make out and don't be shy about asking for help if needed.

Sounds like a cool old truck! And a family heirloom, to boot! It doesn't get much better than that. Hopefully you can post a picture or two at some point. I'd love to see the one of it hauling that dozer!

Welcome to the Bolt!
