Wondering if anyone has used solid polyurethane blocks instead of wood and rubber pad? Would the poly blocks be too hard, or break down? Would they need the rubber pad or be enough cushion without? Also, I'm not real excited about the carriage bolts that came with the kit from Carters (not the right blocks either by the way). Do you use a better bolt ie higher grade or SS or Size?

Wood is easier to shave down to make minor height adjustments. Poly is slick and may rotate over time. So I guess my vote is wood.

Just wondering. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 306 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 306 | ** In ref: to the wood blocks from JC ** I got the same mounting blocks from JC for my 53 Suburban when I compared them with the orig. blocks there was quite a difference. The orig. blocks were only 1 5/8" in height while the new blocks were 2" ** Maybe the new one's were that way for necessary adjustments along the way of getting the body mounted back on the frame. Cut all of the new blocks down to match the orig. one's on mine.

The offset blocks align with their corresponding mounts. I just used square blocks however. Either way, doesn't matter unless you're going for a points restoration. I had the same experience, and thanks to your advice I also cut mine down to 1-5/8 inches.

My original mounts also used that style of metal and rubber/fabric shims. I'll see if I can find an original block (and a spare "reproduction" block) in my garage, but I doubt that I will be able to find them. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Here is my old ones on my Panel.....maybe different than a surburban? Make my new ones out of Oak with 3 coats of preservatives and I made the cushion out of a big piece of fire hose which is rubber and polyester fabric layered together......just fyi. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/z...HXrfRfnBV9QyFP0B8HCfJAmqIb=w1121-h840-no
