I haven't had the original battery hold down on the battery for....quite awhile. Long story, but I had misplaced the stock one. I found it and painted it and am ready to install it. However, I worry (I worry a lot) that the battery clamps will wear through the paint on it and cause a short or sparks.....or worse. Surely this wasn't the case when new. My guess is that the battery clamps should be clear of the cover (as in earlier years (box in different location)?

I'm using as close to the same size batter as I can find. I believe the cover will fit just fine, but.....is it possible that the 1955 battery had the posts placed closer to the center of the battery? It won't matter if the ground clamp touches anything. If the cable is too short to do that, use a longer cable.
