Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,252 | So, I picked up some Panel Trim from Classic Parts for my ABS door panels. I like the way the stuff looks and fits. I'm thinking I'd like to do the same for my rear side panels. Especially since that was one of the items missing when I bought my Suburban. So, aside from finding some 7' strips of stainless, making some dies to turn it in to some 0.375 x 0.125 i.d. x 0.035 stainless channel, would anybody have a source for pre-made channel? I did find this stuff, but the .015 seems a little thin to be a stiffener for panels, whether ABS or cardboard. Does anyone have an alternative to all of this besides hunting down some stock trim pieces? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 146 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 146 | Check upholstery shops and catalogs. They have lots of choices in trim. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,252 "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! | | "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! They have more of the soft stuff, not steel or stainless steel. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | OK, Mark, I don't want to "junk up" your nice looking work but one thought came to mind although I'm not sure it would even look right...but you ask for Idea's, right!
The outside door trim that fits on the edges might work....but might be too bright or thick?????
I used some of this on the edges surrounding my grille on the 37 quite a few years ago and it is still holding up and looking good. ( It does stay inside most of the time) I'm sure some have noticed it but then....no one has ever mentioned it to me. Just a thought!
Would a carpet/hardwood floor place have some type or edging that would work...... | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,252 "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! | | "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,252 | Outside door trim? More explanation, please.
I'm finding the edging at glass places. Thin to wrap the edge of glass. Just not in the proper dimensions.
I might just try the .015 stuff. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Mark, the stuff I was referring to is a plastic with a groove. Lots of folks use to put that over the door edges to "dress up" their car......and supposedly to keep the paint from chipping or messing up someone else's door when they open it against their car. You can get it in a roll or two straight pieces to fit on the edges of doors. You've seen it....I'm just not explaining it good! https://www.amazon.com/Boka-Molding...mp;keywords=door+edge+trim+guard+molding

I've looked at that stuff and I've given it a little thought. My fear is that it would be too flexible. I was feeling the same way about the Classic Part stuff I bought until I took a chance and installed it. Like the cardboard that is sold for panels and headliner, the ABS starts to bow after a while. So it really does need to be framed. | | |
