Hi and welcome to the site! Be sure to stop by the welcome wagon forum and introduce yourself and yell us a bit about your truck!

I am not sure on front hubs that big of a truck, on all my jeeps and my Suburban (all 1/2 ton axles though) you greased everything to keep it lubed but there was no gear oil in it.

I am sure someone will come along that is familiar with your model and year of truck.

the reason i thought it might need oil in the hub is it has a drain plug or filler plug in the hub

That 2 ton model should be the KV4000
The Wheel bearings and hub cavity should be packed with wheel bearing grease.

As well as the knuckle cavity, upper/lower king pins.

If you have oil in there you have a leaking axle tube seal and it's washed the
Grease out.

And Welcome.
