After much deliberation I've decided to replace my original carb and harmonic balancer. I've kept EVERYTHING original until now, but the Rochester B just leaks too dang much and has throttle issues. Cleaned it and done a rebuild kit three times now. The seals on the Harmonic have gone bad, so I guess it's time to replace it with something new. I'm too worried the wobble it's developed will ruin my engine. And I'm not buying a used one again.. The engine is an original 1957 235 Straight 6. I've seen some suggestions on which carbs to change to, but my actual issue has been finding one! My problem is I'm not looking for a used with rebuilt kit. I'm looking for a reproduction or something new. But I still want it to have manual choke and manual throttle cable attachments. Does anyone know a place that sells something like that? I'm 100% ok switching to Carter or another brand. Just looking for manual choke and manual throttle. Probably stay with single bbl unless you guys suggest a reason otherwise. Not looking to make her a powerhouse, I want to keep her original farmhouse feel Same question on the Harmonic. I've seen a few that *SAY* they fit on Summit Racing, but can anyone vouch for the new harmonics on these trucks? Just want to check with you guys before I buy one. Do not purchase an over the counter carburetor form your local parts store, you never know what you will get, and if you do, do not turn in your original unit as a core. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | I got a new balancer for a 292 for my 302, 2 belt grooves, was made by Australians, have box at home if anyone needs PN when I get home, recall had to adjust thickness.

Every forum I have checked, even Jalopy and a few others mentions CarbKing. I didn't know if he was still around!
I've been to a LOT of car shows here in Orlando looking to see how most guys run their carbs, but unfortunately everyone around here seems to get rid of their original engine in the 3100s.
Finding a carb is definitely priority #1 so I'll see if I can get in contact with CarbKing, but in the meantime I'd love to hear everyones carb stories or suggestions if you have a 235! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 1,923 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 1,923 | All balancers are identical, and it doesn't matter which one you use. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | The only exact fit harmonic damper (it's not a balancer) is BHJ: $$$. I thought this topic was/is about finding a 235 crankshaft harmonic balancer? GM Group Number: 0.659 balancer, crankshaftSome might use a different name, but, no need to confuse someone who is using GM manuals/terminology. (step 11, for another example) damper/balancer would be an ok designation for this forum and this question and this suggestion? Nonetheless, as you posted ($$$) $475 + $35 shipping for that new harmonic damper would have me looking for a good used harmonic balancer. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,881 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,881 | It's possible to adapt a 265/283/307 V8 balancer to a stovebolt six with a little machining. I had one I made that way at the homecoming last spring. The cost was about $125.00 with all brand new parts. It also has TWO belt grooves for adding air conditioning, power steering, etc. Jerry

As much as I'm trying to keep it original... I'm in Florida. I drove it once without AC in July and that was enough for me. Second belt groove would be nice. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 108 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 108 | I've had GREAT success with Carolina Carb rebuilding my original 1 BBl. They have a flow bench that is great, no adjustment required after carb is rebuild. Put it on, connect gas line, tap accelerator, pull choke, motor starts. Send them your carb, same one comes back to you rebuilt. http://www.mycarburetordoctor.com/ | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 | Enough of the nonsense!
