Rocker panel looks bad and the floor needs repaced. Man, I'd look for a different cab!! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 197 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 197 | I guess one of my biggest questions is with the E brake, do I need that there? I know the inner fender walls connects to the stip of metal there, but the rest looks to belong to the E brake, if that is the case I can do away with that completely.
Also what does the inner cowl panel do that I cannot just make something out of metal?
If it wasn't for the rust challenge, the 2 month deadline would not be fun. haha....... | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 284 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 284 | Looked like my cab on my 42. Good luck with it. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 427 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 427 | As long as you have the mounting plate for the inner fender you"ll be good. If your not running the e-brake I won't worry about the e-brake part of it.
I made my own inner cowl pieces, so not to difficult. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 187 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 187 | What is all that reddish brown stuff? I think I remember seeing that as a kid in Pennsylvania and in Germany while in the military. We didn't have it in the Colorado mountains or here in the Arizona desert. Seriously, if any of the rest of your cab looks like that, you may consider getting another cab. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 13 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 13 | It can be repaired with replacement panels....It will be a job....what does the other side look like?......Good Luck ....
If it's not a Chevy, its just a four letter word... you choose which one.

Might as well just buy all the patch panels. I took lots of pic's of mine you can see here: http://community.webshots.com/user/curt160 I'll guess you need about $800.00 worth of patch panels and lots of time and mig wire. As stated it would'nt hurt to look for another cab. Good luck. Curt B.

I would love to have a new cab..uh, I mean PANEL body. Not many of those around. Jackyl, its a shame your in New York. Not long ago a young man from Utah had a complete cab for sale cheap. Said it was in really good shape. I have bought some stuff from him and its been well represented. Check back on the for sale forum. If "cheap" is cheap enough mabye someone on the forum for transportation would be headed your way and you could work out something. Just a thought. I know what your going through. I'll have pics of mine up soon. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 197 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 197 | I actually ordered all the replacement panels that I needed, came to about 340.00 so that is not too bad and picked up some steel from a local yard to make a new floor out of. Pretty much that is shot too. The mystery to me is how the cab is actually still sitting on the rails. I looked at the cab mounts or what should be the mounts and they are not even touching the metal of the cab. Well there is one more to be replaced and firmed up. I expect that in a month the entire cab will be back to normal at this rate. Scored some rust free doors(R+L With Shipping) from Ca for 269.00 so that was cool. I wanted this to be a cheap ride for my kids so cheap is always the best. I picked up a 88 Caprice Police car and will start pulling the body from the frame next week. Probably get the flame swap started in about a month too so that should be fun. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | brace the door openings before you take it off the frame or weld anything, they tend to warp when you are working on the floor. You want the doors to fit ok when you are done.
